Best Western Hotel Litteraire Gustave Flaubert

We stopped off in Rouen for a night on our way to our holidays and were very happy with our stay here. The room was pretty, breakfast was very nice with a choice of local and organic produce. We loved the tea from Damman Freres! Parking is available (we were a bit confused by the blocked road to access the hotel- just keep pressing the call button and expalin you want the hotel) and from here you can walk to all the areas you want ie Cathedral, St Maclou church and of course, the Market Square with all the restaurants. We fell in love with the old town and its half timbered houses, gorgeous and so will definitley stop here again. .

Positives: The hotel staff is very friendly, helpful and they were kind when speaking English with us as our French is poor. The hotel is very convenient and central to the city center. The lobby is clean. Reasons I would not stay here again nor recommend this hotel: Upon arriving to our room we noticed a blood stain on the duvet under the duvet cover on the corner of the bed. The front desk person who was super nice brought us around to 4 other rooms to have us pick one that would suit us. One of the non-smoking rooms wreaked of smoke and another had a blood stain on its duvet too. The hallways have stained carpets. The rooms are small, carpets and draperies are dingy and dirty looking, the rooms are very dark w/ inadequate lighting and their are no shower curtains in the shower so water gets all over the sink basin and floor.

Room Tip: I would not stay here.

This is the fourth Best Western hotel we have stayed in France and Italy we appreciate the consistency in service, cleanliness and quality of rooms and facilities. The rooms were nicely decorated, comfy beds, great tv channels (could see Chelsea play Man City!), free wifi and Krups coffee maker in-room. We appreciate this very much because we want to know we will be comfortable and get a good night's sleep. The hotel's main entrance is on 33 rue Vieux Palais. Technically, the street is one-way but enter anyway and drive into the courtyard. We were there in late October and there was parking in the courtyard and the garage was functioning but we did not need it. Buffet breakfast was fine; fresh orange juice available! The only suggestion I would make is they consider modernising their lift - it felt a bit sketchy to me and I preferred using the stairs.

Room Tip: Had Rooms 503 and 504 which had connecting door - excellent for family of four with twin 10 year old...

Stayed here for three nights, chose the hotel due to the location and the car park. Location excellent, can't fault that at all. Unfortunately the underground car park is strangely shut (although we could see no reason why when we went down to it) and the small upper car park was full of contractor's vans when we arrived (on a Friday afternoon). Rather rude receptionist told us to park in local multi-storey. Hotel room was rather small, which we rather expected from a city centre hotel like this, we were on the fifth floor and so had a (extremely small) balcony, but the open access to this meant that we had to keep our windows closed at night, this meant that the room became very stuffy during the night - we were pleased that we were there in September and not July! We did not partake of the breakfast as this would have cost €15 per person and croissants etc are freely available in the surrounding streets a lot cheaper!

This was our second visit and the hotel is very well placed in the centre of Rouen. The car park is very small and the hotel is rather difficult to find if you don't come into Rouen the right way to see the small signs. Hotel room was average and this time overlooking the car park - previously we had a room overlooking the rooftops which was better. The hotel always feels rather abandoned and very quiet. But for the location it is good and comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the tops floor overlooking the rooftops of Rouen

I was part of a coach party doing a tour of Normandy. The hotel provided us with an ideal location. in the heart of the old market area and within a few minutes walk from the cathedral. My room was clean and well-appointed; it even had coffee and tea making facilities. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast choice was excellent. It is the first hotel on the continent where I could enjoy toast and marmalade!

The hotel is very well placed. The rooms were clean and the staff were helpful. We were able to use the hotel parking which was also useful. Rouen was a very nice city and the stay at the hotel did not detract our experience.
