Best Western De Dieppe
Ranked #19 of 51 Hotels in Rouen
Reviewed July 6, 2011

Being an old railway hotel built in the 19th century and family owned since then, one must realize this is no modern stock hotel - hence the differences in room size, a small elevator etc. If your'e sensitive to this kind of "uncertainties", choose an Accor hotel or so...
In my opinion, this hotel has it drawbacks, but it certainly has charm. Our room was small, but nothing to get upset about staying two nights. Accomodation incl breakfast modestly priced.
The restaurant was a really nice surprise; lots of ambition, good cooking results and fair prices. The menu for 29 EUR was a bargain. Recommended!
Breakfast nothing to write home about - mainly a minimalistically reinforced continental version.
Could very well stay here again.

Rouen is a great little town - to some extent a "mini Paris", taking good care of their great sons and daughters, i.e Mauntpassant and Jeanne d'Arc. And with two (!) great cathedrals AND a modern church creation for Mlle Arc in the old square - all well worth visiting.

Dieppe overlooks the railway station -- its name originally referred to the line to Dieppe - and it been in the same family for 5 generations.

Travelling with a group I can tell you there is great variation in the size and layout of rooms -- this is no corporate 'every room is identical' hotel. I had a huge room at the end of a corridor and the biggest bed I have ever slept in. Out room on the second floor (American Ist) overlooked the railstation but there was no noise, except for a few shouts from late night revellers and I had an excellent sleep..

First problem on arrival, and last problem on departure, is a single lift the size of a triangular phone box, too small for two people and luggage.

In the rooms there is an electric kettle, but no cups, coffee, tea or anythingelse. Why not? On inquiry it was because we were on a group rate so they'd been removed!!! How mean is that?

The walls were very thin so you could hear the next room, the bathroom like a long thin corridor with a strange glass door.

They boast a gourmet restaurant and a culinary tradition, but because we were in a group were served a set dinner in a hot stuffy private room. Only one waiter was deployed to serve 3 courses to, and take wine orders from, 30 people, so dinner took over 3 hours. And the food was execrable. For the money per head we paid we could have gone into town and had a decent freshly cooked meal: this was dry grey lamb thinly sliced and warmed up so the edges of the meat had dried like cardboard.

Breakfast was basic self serve continetal buffet.

I cannot recomment Dieppe and I won't return there...

I have never seen such elevator, with no possibilities to enter if you have a big luggage.

Restaurant Grill - they recommended a fish, then we founded it as it was almoust rare. Without any excuses they brought another porshion, which probably was the same one, but fried this time.

What was really nice - the room. Everything was almoust perfect - size of the room, cleaning and bathroom.

Location is good for travellers - next to the railway station. Price was acceptable.
Parking was payable, but only 5 euro per night, which was accaptable.

Google maps shows the wrong location: this is directly next to the train station. Even in a "quiet, off street" room there is continuous noise of the street and/or construction. There is no AC or fan, so choices are hot with window closed, or comfortable with outside noise. And with the window closed, you can hear every door in the hotel open and close. The room is clean and well presented, of typical small size and relatively few amenities. Bathroom is poorly designed.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent as it is across from the rail station which has a large car park. The restaurant wasn't really suitable for family dining but staff gave us alternatives in the city centre which was a 5 minute walk away. The hotel has a genuine ambience. It is distinctly French which gives a feel of travelling in Europe - travellers wanting a hotel which is part of a chain and could be anywhere would be disapointed! Rooms were as I would expect in a city but in need of repairs - our room had obviously had a damp problem at some time. The staircase has an old lift which reminds of films of the 1950's. Breafast was lovely - served in a snug bar area and was a typical French buffet breakfast - once again travellers expecting the same breakfast as served in London or Chicago would be dissapointed! Oveall a pleasant stay - a distictly French hotel - but then it would be - Rouen is in France!!

I stayed here for three nights in September 2006. The first night, fighting jet lag, I only slept a few hours. The second night I slept a few as well, and the next morning I noticed about fifteen red bumps, and thought that maybe I had gotten some mosquito bites the day before. However the third night, I slept a full ten hours, but when I woke up I had at least 200 bugbites, and after visiting the doctor, and calling my doctor back home, it was determined that I had run into bedbugs. The hotel refused to acknowledge the situation, and I am still dealing with the issue in the hopes that no one else has to go through something like this on vacation. I was not compensated in any way, and treated like I was making it up, or that I was the only guest this had ever happened to. I did notice in other reviews on this hotel, that other people as well commented on the cleanliness of the hotel. One of the signs I missed, but saw after the doctor told me to look for it, was the sheets had small drops of blood on them. So please beware if you are going to stay here.

This was our least favorite hotel during almost three weeks in France. The website, at least when the room was booked, wasn't clear that only the public area is air conditioned, not the room. Being near the train station, there is always some noise with the windows open. The mattresses definitely need to be replaced; very lumpy. Getting to the rooms is a challenge due to the very small elevator and depending on the room, steps once you get to your floor. The elevator opening is so small it's impossible to wheel in a 25" suitecase; had to get it in sideways. I also agree with the comment about the glass door to the bathroom; very strange and unexpectedly revealing!
