“Good location”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

We had a family suite that gave us plenty of room for the 4 of us(including 2 teenage boys). The storage and closet space was plentiful and the bathroom roomy. This hotel is tough to find which is due to Rouen's streets, and you had better have a small car for that parking garage. That being said we were glad there was parking as these old cities don't lend themselves to parking. The location was great which is in the best part Rouen. Our room was facing the cathedral too bad the windows were completely filthy.

The hotel is small and compact. The staff are absolutely excellent, nothing was too much trouble! The hotel is in the heart of the old city and a great base for exploration. Lots of great restaurants nearby, the breakfast buffet is very good, and the bar a great stop before venturing out for an evening meal. The hotel is difficult to get to, and the hotel garage is very tight and narrow so take care! For drivers all the access controls are on the left, this is not good for English drivers/cars.! On the downside, I found the mattress of the bed too hard for comfort and the pillows too soft. The room A/C was completely ineffective as well, otherwise it would have been perfect.

We were upgraded to a Privilege Room, which was a pleasant surprise and we were glad it happened as the standard room we had booked may have been smaller. The room was adequate, but with six weeks of luggage we struggled to not trip over luggage while moving around the room. Otherwise, the room was well set up and little touches like a Nesprsso machine, gowns, slippers, free water and soft drinks made the stay pleasant. The hotel is located adjacent to the Cathedral and has plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops surrounding it. As a bonus, the city uses the Cathedral for a light and sound show each night from June till September starting at 11pm each night. Its brilliant and just a short walk from the hotel.

Dear Sir,

We would like to thank you for your opinion on Tripadvisor. "Privilège" room are well fitted and it is a pleasure for us to upgrade our guest when it is possible. As you said, the hotel is located very closed to the cathedrale and the city center with many activities to discover.
I share you comment with the hotel's team and, please, be sure that we will be pleased to welcome you for an other trip in Rouen.
Have a nice week.
Best regards.

A really comfortable hotel with excellent service and well-appointed room, and like many Mercure hotels has a character appropriate to its location; you would not think of it as part of a chain. However, it is situated in the midst of the historic centre and the streets are extremely narrow. Over the last few years Rouen has put in a tramway, changed some streets to bus only, others to one-way, and changed some one-way directions. It's highly likely neither your map nor your SatNav will be sufficenly up to date, and anyway the narrow streets mean you will get a poor signal. The carpark is difficult to find (there is little chance of driving up to the hotel entrance first), the entrance is narow and steep, and the carpark itself awkward to negotiate. We must have spent an hour in the rain driving around to find it. Nevertheless it was well worth it when we did, and of course everything you want to see is close by, as are restaurants and shops.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for giving your opinion on Tripadvisor.
The staff try to do the best to help you to find the hotel easily because of changes made on roads direction. We are sorry for the inconveniences you encountered and I can inform you that new road signs had been placed in key points of Rouen to guide our guest to the hotel.
Despite this, we are glad to know that everything was OK when you arrived at the hotel.

We hope to see you again at the Mercure Rouen Centre Cathédrale and we wish you a nice day.

Best regards.

We drove from Paris, and as others have mentioned directions to the carpark would have been beneficial, do be aware itis extremley narrow. The location of the cathedral was great and within walking distance to shops and attractions. The staff were friendly. The rooms were adequate, though the bathrooms were clean and function could do with an update. The decor a little dark. We stayed in a room which overlooked a gravel courtyard, the portrait of a man above the beds a little jarring. Overall was satisfied with the stay.

We stayed for 2 nights in June and found it excellent. We arrived by car and very nearly found it first time. The underground car park was very useful even if a tight fit for a 4 x 4. The room was comfortable and clean with a good bathroom. The staff were really helpful. It is right in the middle of everything a tourist wants to see in Rouen with lots of restaurants and shops nearby.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel on two separate nights in May 2013. It is located very near the cathedral, and close to other worthwhile sites. We arrived by train and pulled our bags from the train station to the hotel. It's a bit of a slog, but mostly downhill. The trip back to the station uphill was more difficult. Perhaps we should have taken a cab or public transit. Both of our rooms on the fifth floor were very contemporary and well outfitted. The hotel staff members with whom we dealt were very helpful and informative. The breakfast buffet was exceptional.
