“Perfect location in downtown Rouen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2011

Although it was a bit of challenge to get there (lots of one-way single lane roads) once you are there its the perfect location in the historic downtown Rouen. I love, love this little quaint town where the heroic Joan of Arc was martyred.

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and loved every minute of these 2 nights, quick check in, room of a good size with small balcony and view of the Beautiful Cathedral of Rouen, The hotel is located in a small very quiet street with some shops at the heart of the city, all is in walking distance, Place du vieux marche, Cathedrale, Rue du gros horloge,...
Breakfast in the morning is great, the 2 ladies are very helpful and professional.
Reception Staff very nice and helpful, Night Receptionist as well.
I stayed in the other Mercure as well as other hotels in Rouen but this hotel is defnitely the best in town and would recommend it.

The Mercure is well located close to the cathedral (but with no view of it) and at the edge of Rouen’s atmospheric historic centre. It’s a basic no frills three star with bland décor - it works but doesn’t inspire.

(The iconic cathedral is in the middle of an ugly building site and otherwise visitor-unfriendly)

Our room was adequately sized but poorly lit and minimally furnished (e.g. no drawers). The bathroom was basic but well lit. Breakfast was a buffet with a good choice, including cooked food. There is no restaurant (but there are plenty nearby). All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. In-room WiFi was free.

The hotel has a car park but is difficult to access by car because of Rouen’s narrow streets and extensive pedestrianisation.

Recommended as a base for a short tourist stay but not as a destination.

The hotel is rather difficult to find by car but if you follow the signpost in the centre rather than your satnav you will get there. It has a carpark which is handy. The reception staff are helpful. The corridors smell of cooking which is odd since the hotel has no restaurant. The carpets were dirty and the room was quite small. The bedroom walls are thin so you can hear what is going on next door. The bed was very uncomfortable indeed. The bathrooms were standard mercure plastic and old. This hotel is in serious need of refurbishment. There is satellite TV and free high speed internet access. I would like to go to Rouen again but not to this hotel.

stayed overnight on way back from the dordogne. with no gps it took us 3 goes to find the entrance to the car park. when you get there you simply buzz and they let you in. car parking spaces were limited and a bit tricky to get our long honda estate into - some were actually impossible. Parking had to be paid for but was pretty reasonable. had a superior corner room with cathedral view. very spacious. seperate loo and bathroom. seperate dressing area. rather disgruntled to be woken up about 8 oclock in the morning by workmen at the cathedral. Rouen is lovely - lots to see and lovely buildings.
