Villa La Gloriette
Ranked #9 of 28 Rouen B&B and Inns
Reviewed December 2, 2013

We stayed one night at Villa la Gloriette and found Claire and Christophe to be very gracious hosts. We also stayed at a time when only one guest room was operating- the Bovary room. Unfortunately we were not able to take advantage of its lovely balcony, nor the beautiful gardens, because it was raining continually during our stay. If you are able to understand, and possibly even speak, some French then the owners will be truly delighted as we found ( my husband only has limited French so they were happy to speak English for him). As other reviewers have stated we managed to find a street park and it is very close to the metro and within walking distance- even in the rain- of some decent eating places. It is a very secure property and Christophe generously allowed us to store our luggage on-site after we had checked out and wanted to explore Rouen for the day. The breakfast was continental style, fresh and generous. I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending this delightful property to anyone looking for quality, convenient accommodation in Rouen.

We spent 6 nights here and being the end of season were the only guests. We received very personal attention from Christophe who has very good english - he explained about the town, offered advice and directed us to the wide array of tourist information in our room and the common areas.

This is a large suburban house in a smart garden enclosed behind high walls and a secure gate. Street parking is plentiful but being only a few minutes walk from a metro terminus there seemed to be some commuter parking and finding space in the narrow streets in the late afternoon could be a problem. The city centre, town hall, cathedral and key sights are within 10 minutes walk.

We had the Bovarie room and it is exactly as shown on the website. Furnished in flambuoyant style with many antiques, the room is spacious and the en suite bathroom of equal size. Furnished with antique bath and wash basin and fittings but sensibly has a modern toilet and large and very efficient shower/cubicle.

There is a nice balcony big enough to accommodate a small table and two chairs to enjoy refreshments and a view over the garden.

The room had a stocked fridge and tea making facilities. Recognising the british penchant for tea with milk, Christophe put milk in the fridge especially for us.

Breakfast was fromage frais or yoghurt with fresh fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice, a basket of croissants, brioche and local breads, selection of preserves and a choice of tea and coffee. Christophe was always on hand during breakfast to offer help or advice.

We enjoyed great hospitality from Christophe and Claire and as other reviewers before us, we readily recommend the Villa la Gloriette.

Room Tip: Both Monet and Bouverie rooms are on the first floor accessed by a spiral staircase which may be dif...

We stayed at Villa La Gloriette for one night while en route to Limousin. What a wonderful place! Situated a short walk from the city centre, it's an idealic location - peaceful and serene. The owners were very accommodating given our last minute booking and late arrival time. The house itself is beautiful and the room (and bathroom) very spacious. We would recommend the Bovary room with the balcony overlooking the gardens. Breakfast was delicious and served in a lovely front room. We will come again for a full weekend.

Great place to stay. Friendly , helpful hosts. Nice quiet area, but easy and quick (15 mins ) to stroll into the centre of Rouen (or get the metro back - up the hill ).
Good comfortable, spacious room, (Monet room ) , good continental breakfast.
A very relaxing place to stay.
My wife and I stayed 7 nights (11th to 18th August ), and highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Not the easiest of locations to find because of the narrow roads and the oneway system. Print off...

We traveled through Normandy with another couple and kicked it off with a night at Villa Gloriette - after reading great reviews on this site, we were very happy with this decision ~ the rooms were lovely, Christophe and Claire were friendly and helpful and the location was perfect. Highly recommend it.

We are a family of four and we needed a place to stay for two nights to explore Rouan and were so glad we chose to stay here. Claire and Christophe allowed us to stay in the garden room, despite the fact we had two children under 13 (we promised that our children would respect people's privacy and their beautiful villa) and we were made to feel so welcome. Claire made sure the children were safe (Christophe even put up a stair gate for us) and gave us local information, lovely welcome tea, coffee, cakes, water in the fridge and even a few beers which my husband welcomed after a long drive! Our breakfast was incredible, hot chocolate for the children, fresh croissants, pain au chocolate, fresh fruit, fresh coffee etc all served on our private terrace. The garden room/apartment is just beautiful and furnished with style and lovely little touches, cushions, trinkets, games and books. It was a wonderful stay which give us a great start to our holiday. Many thanks.

Room Tip: Choose the garden room as it is just great for families who need a bit of extra space.

Claire and Christophe are naturally warm and hospitable hosts. These qualities shine through in every aspect of the Villa La Gloriette, from the welcome we received on arrival to the helpful suggestions to the well appointed room and finally to the very delicious breakfast that is served each morning. Everything is presented with care and style. I can't imagine that there is a better place to stay in Rouen. Our staynwasnperfect in every possible way.
