My husband and I recently spent one night at this property in Honfleur. We were meant to stay two nights but disliked it so much we asked to check out early. Thankfully(!) the proprietor 'allowed' us to check out after one night.
To begin, the website and the actual hotel are nothing alike. Dont be fooled!!! The charm you expect to see from this small norman hotel (as the website suggests) is simply non-existant. Instead you feel as though you are in a no frills budget hostel. Our room (105 euros per night) was very small, hot, stuffy and in need of new furnishings. Where is that comfortable-looking room photographed on their website?
We had to sleep with the window open to let in some air but were agonizingly bitten numerous times by the mosquitos. At one point in the night my husband killed 8 of them! As mentioned in a previous review there are absolutely no views from the windows - our room looked out onto another part of the hotel and roof (please see photo).
Along with the displeasure and discomfort of our room, the reason this hotel rates as a terrible experience for us is our treatment by reception. When we first arrived and checked in there was no welcoming hello and we were told to escort ourselves to our room. When we came downstairs and asked for a fan we were told there weren't any. When we first arrived and checked in there was no welcoming hello and we were told to escort ourselves to our room. When we came downstairs and asked for a fan we were told there weren't any. When we said that we were not happy with our room we were told that there was nothing that could be done. The attitude was awful! At one point I was being screamed at by the lady in reception about how my complaints were unreasonable. The lady behaved like an adolescent talking over my husband and I and taunting us. Believe me - we were shocked! When we told her we did not want to stay in the hotel she told us that we would have to pay for the first night (fair enough) but she would not confirm whether we would have to pay for the second reserved night. We had to wait for the proprietor the next morning. Meanwhile, in her rampage she rubbed out our booking for the second night and shouted out at us to 'Have a good evening. I hope it's not too hot!' as we walked out of the hotel to find some dinner. To come such a long way to endure an unnecessary argument and deal with such a nasty lady was not the greatest start to our trip in Normandy. Fortunately the other hotels and chateaus we stayed in made up for this one night.
There are many hotels in Honfleur - we saw 5 hotels within a one-block radius of Hotel des Loges and the center of town...More
