I have been to many churches, cathederals, abbyes throughout France, and this is one of my favorites. It is intimate, well used and well loved. The views from the hill overlooking the ocean and the town of Honfleur are beautiful. If you are lucky and time your trip right, you can watch the bells play a song on the outside of the church. The large bank of bells are located outside the church and make beautiful music. It is even more remarkable to watch the machinery work in making the bells sing.

This is a must visit place when in Honfleur.

The Chapel is only a few minutes out of Honfleur. Small a reflecting a strong seafaring tradition with model ships hanging from the ceiling and walls adorned with message plaques (presumably form pilgrims or families of sailors). The chapel is still used for mass (6:30 Saturday evenings) and when we were there the bells outside the chapel played Ave Maria.

It's not large, but it packs a whallop. I am giving it an extra star because of the view you see of the harbor as you ascend to the summit.

Hard to find, but an interesting old church. If you go up to the Cote de Grace overlook about the city, be sure to check it out.

The chapel on the hill above Honfleur has been the focus of prayers for sailors, living and lost, since the dawn of time. Situated on a peaceful wooded hill the chapel is a fascinating part of Honfleur history.

I popped back into the chapel on my own, to pick up a new postcard. It felt as though I had strayed into another, darker place. There was no-one else, yet I had the powerful sensation of walking through a crowd of people. I am shivering now to remember... read more here and definitely visit! http://honfleurthenandnow.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/honfleur-chapelle-de-notre-dame-de.html
