“Charming Hotel, Pricey Food and Drink”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

This is a beautiful Relais & Chateaux hotel loaded with charm. The interior of the main lodge is warm and quaint...the common areas are very comfortable and allow for private conversation. A wonderful outdoor patio, but truthfully the view of the estuary and across to La Havre is less than spectacular as it is fairly industrial and the road just below the hotel can be somewhat noisy. Service is very good, very attentive. We had a garden view room which was large and comfortable and included a generously sized bathroom as well. If you are staying in warmer months be advised there is no air-conditioning and the windows do not have screens. Our room was a bit warm and stuffy the first night, but temperatures cooled and things were more comfortable the second two nights (we were there the first week in October). The hotel is just out of the completely charming town of Honfleur...an easy walk into town (10 minutes) but enough out of town to be quiet. Honfleur is loaded with restaurants and shops...many art galleries, higher end stores, very nice for browsing or shopping. We had dinner one night in the restaurant at the hotel...the most expensive meal I have ever had, and I have eaten out a lot all over the world. The food was very good, but not worth the price charged. Breakfast was also good, but quite pricey. Maybe it was the time of year, but our room was very reasonably priced so it was a bit of a shock when we realized how expensive the food was. Expect to pay over $100 for even the cheapest wine on the menu. Despite the pricey food, I would definitely stay there again. Staff was friendly and very helpful, responding to multiple emails from me on a very timely basis. The hotel is really beautiful and the location is ideal for exploring Normandy.

We enjoyed our stay but felt the value could have been better.

Splurge on the smoked salmon for lunch. It was the best ever (sushi grade, cut with a fork). I would have like to know the price (50 EUR) when the waiter suggested it (no menus).

The room was clean but a bit cramped.

Spend time in the indoor pool which is tastefully appointed.

The view from the main building is degraded by industry across the bay.

Internet connections were spotty even after the upgrade which occurred during our stay.

Location is fine if you are able to make the 10 minute hilly walk to town (romantic at night).

Our group of eight discerning travelers stayed in Honfleur as our base for visiting the Normandy Landing beaches and we were delighted to arrive at such a beautiful location even in the middle of a pouring rain. When the sun came out, we understood why Monet made the thatched barn the subject of his paintings. The hotel was charming although the rooms were noisy as a consequence of all wood floors with not even an area rug. Also the housekeeping could use to be a bit better but it certainly was respectable.

The restaurant was extraordinary and we had perhaps the best foie gras that I have ever had. The menu was a bit too limited but the Maitre D' was most accommodating in fashioning alternatives that were acceptable to those who have a limited palate. The downside was that this all came at a price that shocked even the most price insensitive of us.

All in all we would do it again as Honfleur is a charming town with much to offer..

Our week’s stay at La Ferme Saint Simeon in July this year was undoubetedly the highlight of our month’s holiday in France. Arriving many hours late at 9pm, after a frustrating day, with major car problems, concierge very quickly showed us to our room and after changing we were still greeted very amiably by the Maitre d’Hotel in the restaurant. We had advised the hotel before arriving and it was no problem accommodating us with our special dietary requirement. For the entire week, the Maitre d’Hotel and the Executive Chef and restaurant staff were amazing and very professional. They went out of their way to accommodate our dairy allergy at every meal and their attention to our needs, the quality and presentation of the meals was outstanding and very welcoming. This, in Normandy, the heart of the dairy industry in France. The Maitre d’Hotel also very quickly determined our palate for wine and suggested some excellent wines to complement our meals.

Our accommodation in the original farmhouse was superb. We had a junior suite located on the second floor, without a lift. With perfect view of the Seine estuary, we were able to open windows on both sides for a lovely crossflow of breeze. Our suite was very well appointed, spacious and comfortable, with a beautiful marble bathroom. Our bed and pillows afforded a good night’s sleep. It was lovely and clean on our arrival home each day.

The gardens are beautiful and well maintained, a pleasure to stroll. We did not have time to use the spa, however the indoor pool and spa facilities looked exceptional. A quiet and calming location, the hotel is a short 5 – 10 min walk to the centre of Honfleur,

Reception, Concierge, Maitre d’Hotel and staff all seemed to work together as a team. Nothing was too much trouble and happily attended to all our needs.

All in all, this made for a wonderful stay and we look forward to returning some day.
Hopefully by then I will be able to learn enough French to speak with the Executive Chef and thank him properly for his cuisine.

We spent 3 days here. The hotel is old and historical. We had a room in the old part and found it very pleasant and comfortable.I can live without the gym but would have appreciated the ability to make a cup of tea/coffee in the room and also an iron. The home baked biscuits left on the bed each night were thoughtful and, unfortunately for the waistline, very tasty! Yes the restaurant is pricey, but definitely an experience and a must do at least once. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, definitely 5 star! It was about a 10 minute walk to the town where there are many options for eating, most of them very inexpensive and some better than others. After spending time in the really busy bustling town it was lovely to return to the tranquillity of La Ferme!

Room Tip: We had room 26 which had a view of the water and 2 windows.

The pluses: the history attached to this place, charming property, friendly staff, delicious omelette for breakfast (do not miss it!) and overall good breakfast (maybe needs to be richer in fruits), great garden for a relax time with a nice view, nice attention in the room upon arrival and in the evening (cookie, champagne,...), walking distance from village and yet quiet, nice spa.
The minuses: extremely frustrating wifi which forces you to login again every few minutes, mosquitos, room service of unequal quality ie they sometimes forget to fill in the mini bar and the cleaning team is not really thorough : they forgot one of their bags in our room, unreliable concierge who recommended 3 lousy restaurants in the village.

Room Tip: Our rooms 11 and 12 had really steep stairs but have a nice view on the central garden. They can be...

The setting is lovely. The buildings are uber-charming, particularly the one with the thatched-roof. And I had quite possibly the best meal of my life. Knowing the connection to Boudin and Monet made me a sucker for the place.

The rooms were attractive, but don't expect bells and whistles. Feels like you're staying in the guest house of a VERY wealthy friend -- which is exactly what I like.

Room Tip: Well-staffed spa with pool and hot tub in the newer building. No AC, although this wasn't a pro...
