We stayed A L'ecole Buissonniere for four nights. Honfleur is very picturesque and so is L’ecole. It’s straight in off the street and into a courtyard. The room we stayed was on the far side of the courtyard. It was described as a suite, but is actually two areas partially divided by some timber beams. The bathroom was off the second area.
It is apparently a 17thc building, somewhat restored. Reviews here describe just how attractive it is – it certainly is but we found it a little impractical.
Privacy: Our room faced out over a courtyard and windows on the opposite side. The curtains in the bedroom were three quarter strips of white linen. You were overlooked from the opposite side of the courtyard and it was light from dawn. In the bathroom, curtains were a banner style in a semi-transparent material. OK during the day but at night, a late shower becomes rather public.
Security: The front door has a code for entry. People come in and out and the door can be left open. We were told there was only one room key – we assumed this meant we had to share between the 3 of us. It actually means there is only one key – no pass key to clean the room. We found you have to leave it unlocked in order to have your room cleaned.
Towels/Linen: Despite leaving our room unlocked, bed linen was not changed in 4 days. There is nowhere to hang towels except to drape over a laundry box. Expect to use wet towels again the next day.
Lavatory: Built into a little cabin in the corner of the room. Anyone over 5ft 5 or with a moderate dislike of enclosed spaces will not shut the door, which adds to the privacy issues.
Breakfast: Is advertised as Bio and Gourmand. Certainly much comes from the Carrefour bio range. Juice is bottled. Bread looked a bit daunting – not the soft baguettes you associate with breakfast in France. You are asked at check in whether you want tea, coffee or hot chocolate and get that every day – you will need to ask for milk every day to go with the coffee or the Carrefour bio Muesli.
Booking: Check in is not formal, (which is fine for vacation) and no receipt was offered - but in our experience, you should double check they have your correct date of departure.
L’Ecole describes itself as a Maison D’Hote, though we thought they were restricted to 5 rooms. Certainly you are paying hotel prices here so are entitled to expect equivalent service.
No doubt this is a charming building – some people love it but it did not quite work for us. Do read the French language reviews from summer 2009 – babelfish mauls the translation a bit but they are interesting.

We recently traveled in Normandy, France and stopped for a couple of days in Honfleur - a wonderful seaside town - as part of our visit to the Normandy Beaches. We lucked out and found a beautiful B & B, less than a five minute walk to the town centre / harbour. From the street we were apprehensive that we had chosen poorly, but as soon as we walked into the beautiful inner courtyard we were at ease. We were shown to a spotlessly clean room with a good en suite bathroom (shower). I believe the building was built in the 1700's, and was lovingly preserved. The only drawback to our stay was that it was really hot the two days were were there and the room was quite warm. Air conditioning would have been nice, or even a ceiling fan would have been welcome. However, this was a charming B & B, and the breakfasts were the best we had found in four weeks of travel in France. Sylvia and Pascal were delightful hosts. A great place to stay!

We loved Honfleur and this is the perfect place to stay. Sylvia does not speak English, but is learning. We were able to speak to her husband who was so nice and accomodating. The rooms and courtyard are amazing. The breakfast is an extra fee but is so worth it!!!
I will be back one day.

Sylvia, her husband and two sons make you feel at home at the B&B a l'ecole buissonniere. Her old world French decor adds to the touch of the rennovated girls school. Enjoy your stay and the community.

My experience at L'école Buissonière was great. Very good location next to the "Vieux Bassin" but not noisy at all. The room I had on the second floor was very nice confortable and spacious with a large private terasse overseing the inn, ideal to relaxe under the sun when not walking around town and sightseing. The bed was very confortable and there was a flat screen TV and insuite bathtub in the room.

Breakfast was OK... at the price we are paying for to stay there, I would suggest they offer something more elaborate then bio store bought yougurt/cereal.It would make a difference on the overall stay. Coffee was very good!

There was Wireless Internet although it was not working if I wasn't 2 feet close to the wifi box which was in the breakfast room. Not very convenient. I never have problems with my connection and therefore highly doubt the problem was on my side like Sylvia the owner was suggesting.

Over all very good!
