“Quiet and Hospitable”
Reviewed July 19, 2011

A large, attractive house in a quiet, secluded setting, conveniently close to Rye. Our rooms were comfortable and spacious, with beautiful views. The landlady was friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Just stayed for 2 nights whilst at a wedding in Rye. The welcome was lovely, a clean and tidy bedroom waiting for us after a long journey with all the facilities to make a needed cup of tea and fresh milk in the fridge not the little plastic long life things. The sun was shining and the view fantastic. Walked into Rye which took about 30 mins stroll and wouldn't be recommended if not able to walk far.
The breakfast was freshly cooked and was more than plenty. We were even given a lift into town for the wedding by the couple.
If we do visit Rye again, would definately stay here and for longer given the relax and hospitable atmosphere there.

Have just stayed at the Mill House and thought this B&B was excellent value. It's a little way out of the town, in a rural setting which is very peaceful. The town is probably a reasonable walk in good weather, but given that we stayed in very cold weather we certainly didn't (uphill) fancy the walk back from the town on Saturday night. But still a taxi is only a fiver from the town. The house is warm, inviting, homely and full of character. Our room boasted a very comfortable king-size bed and a great view of the surrounding countryside. The place is spotlessly clean and clearly very well cared for. Everything had been thought of in the way of creature comforts. The breakfast was excellent - fresh coffee, juice, full English with fried bread, and toast. I would recommend this B&B if you are looking for a peaceful setting.

just returned from a weekend in Rye. Weather as predicted was pouring on the Saturday (all day) but beautiful sunshine on the Sunday - only in England! Considering the previous week's heavy snow, it was a wonder we managed to get there at all! This B&B is a mile's walk from Rye and while not all of the walk boasts a proper path, it is safe enough along a not too busy road. There are three pubs nearby serving food so it is well located and the rooms are very good value considering the high prices Rye accommodation tends to command.

Our room was very spacious, had all amenities, a killer shower and we were able to park the car and walk into Rye. If visiting Rye itself, a car is not necessary but obviously to explore further, a car is essential. Our breakfasts were cooked to order and the owner made sure we were well fed. Well recommended.

While in Rye, we tested no fewer than 6 pubs. All shone, although the Ship Inn's beer was the poorest for taste (I returned one pint but was not offered a free replacement) but it redeemed itself with a small, good menu and warm atmosphere. The Mermaid Inn was an astonishing building and just oozed charm, quality and history; a must see! The Union was a particular favourite for both drinks and pub food. The Standard would have won best pub if our 3-course meal didn't take well over two hours, and no, they were not busy with other diners! The Hope Anchor at the top of the hill was commendable, great barman, good beer and a stunning location. The George Hotel's bar boasted the best decor and great staff, it felt wonderful to relax and lounge on their vast leather sofas! Of the many tea rooms, we ate in Fletchers, another stunning building next to the church. My soup and bacon sandwich were delicious, but my partner's Cottage pie had a strange, quorn-like consistency - a shame that! We drove to the harbour (5 minutes away from Rye) and saw the many walkers head for the National reserve. Unfortunately, it looked like a good 20+ minute walk and we just didn't have enough time to do it.

Loved the weekend; will probably go again and certainly try the pubs we missed. Hopefully, the Mill House will still take guests when the time comes for our return visit.
