Le Jardin des Plumes
Ranked #1 of 2 Hotels in Giverny
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 22, 2013

This is a superlative hotel. The grounds are lush, the hotel itself bright and comfortable, and the staff as helpful and friendly as any we've encountered. We had a room with a small balcony overlooking the garden and opening onto the hills above Giverny a lovely sight in the late evening and at daybreak. Everything about the room was perfect, including the bed.

As if all of this were not enough, dinner in the restaurant (after a drink in the garden) was outstanding, beautifully prepared and served, with the added bonus of a knowledgeable wine recommendation. Clearly, the aim of the hotel is to provide a "relais" experience in a village that tends to draw one-day visitors. This is different and will change the Giverny experience from what is essentially a quick visit to the Monet shrine to a base for travel in the region.

I can not even begin to describe how impressed we are with this gem of the hotel! From the moment we stepped on the hotel grounds we were enchanted with the beauty of the place. The grounds are lush and green and make one think of the Monet gardens which are , by the way, only a 5 minutes walk from the hotel. To illustrate the beauty of the place, i might say, that my husband, who normally totally lacks romantic inclinations, suddenly suggested: " that would be a perfect place for our son's wedding!" mind you, our son does not have a steady GF yet! the hotel director, Nadya, is superb -she is attentive, personable, made us feel right at home. She immediately gave us her cell phone # in case we need anything in her absence. She upgraded us from a room to a suite. Our suite was one two levels, with a beautiful view to the hotel grounds, and tall fir trees. It was sparkling clean. The bed was soft and comfortable, the bath robes were lush and new, the toiletries were of the high quality.
Nadya also provided us with the information on the points of interests within the driving distance, which was very helpful.
The breakfast was nice and fresh - my only wish : it would be nice to have some protein - eggs or cheese -, since i personally try to avoid too much carbs. My husband though did like the local organic yogurt ( and i don't eat yogurt). The hotel restaurant is exquisitely elegant and the cuisine is superb. We had a pleasure of meeting the chef and his mother, who decorated the place, and i expressed to her my admiration. The staff provided excellent personable service. I can go on and on on how and why we liked the place, but, i will tell you just one additional detail - we booked it for one night - we changed our plans and stayed here for two night, because we liked it so much. Book it - it worth every penny!

The downstairs breakfast room and very cozy lounge are decorated with style, ....furniture etc are not of spectacularly high quality either though.
The bedroom is OK. Its style is somewhere between a design hotel and a fairly ordinary room, lacking a bit of charm (would have painted the wooden doors)
At the prices charged for our room the room the standards should have been somewhat better.
The breakfast is very nice with great breads and marmelades (no eggs, cheese, meats etc. though)

Room Tip: Some rooms are in a new building, we did not see these.

What luck in falling on Le Jardin des Plumes two months after it opened in November 2012. Beautifully renovated combining art deco and modern elements in a tasteful way we had the suite overlooking the garden of this boutique hotel. The bed was very comfortable but pride of place to the bathroom with engraved lilies on the glass and shower walls with a rippling effect. No cutting down on expenses here.
The best surprise was the new year eve's dinner prepared with great talent and on the specially commissioned plates with the water lilies again - our favourite dishes being the scallops (coquille st jacques) and deer (biche). The service was excellent and the personnel, especially le sommelier, friendly and helpful.
The hotel is well placed less than a kilometer from the Monet museum.
We would need to see the garden in spring/summer and visit other rooms to be able to give the top rating but this was a real coup de coeur.
