“Luxury with comfort.”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

Stayed in one of the new Lodges in the grounds of the garden. Huge walk in shower and bathroom. Good quality towels, robes and bedding. Very good service at breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice, hot rustic breads, jams , sweet cakes, farm yogurt and a very large pot of fresh coffee . Extremley helpful receptionist. Also able to leave or car in hotel car park while we visited Monet's gardens.

“Fabulous book now!”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

On our second visit we discovered to our delight that the restaurant has come of age.
Everything was good - from welcome to farewell and all the eating and drinking in between.
The appetiser and aperitif were both faultless and interesting; the starter - gambas - was a delight of flavours; the main course - duck breast - was wonderful and perfectly cooked (rose); the cheese was splendid and included choices that you don't usually come across; the homemade bread and specially sourced Brittany butter served throughout were exceptional; and I couldn't manage a desert (big eater though I am), but my table fellows squealed with appreciation.
Even the price was reasonable for the quality.
A met a friend in the foyer who told me that they hadn't booked but were given a table in the bar because the restaurant was full. I told him that I wasn't surprised - he'll know better for next time (which I'm sure won't be long).

“Marvelous chic restaurant”

Great decor, atmosphere, wine list, cuisine. Service was exemplary. I understand they have a hotel and are expanding it The short drive from the village of Giverny is totally worth it

“Looks nice, food is average, service is well below”
Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

The restaurant looks nice, once the garden and the parking place is transformed from their current muddy state, it will probably look quite striking.Unfortunately that is as far as the positive goes.

Food is somewhere between average and below. Courses are generally complicated with too many tastes and ingredients mixed. Simplicity is not a keyword here. Unfortunately adding a lot of different things to a course does not make it any better.

Service is very well below average. Expect your sparkling water to be poured into mugs filled with plain water, expect the sommelier to tell you that the chablis in the winelist is undrinkable with food, but that he has three others (which are at least 50% more expensive) which at least can be had with food. If you ask for a course to be served without oysters, expect the oysters still to be there when the plate arrives. Do not expect any type of excuse for anything. If you complain, in French or English, expect silence and a disapearing sommelier or waiter.

Some pecularities are striking: You are expected to use the same knife through your meal irrespective of how many courses you are having and whether some are fish and some are meat. If you are lucky you get a new knife for the dessert (a knife was badly needed for the dessert). The mugs used for the water are, apart from facilitating a mixup between sparkling and plain water, instrumental in preventing the server to fill them properly.

The tourist season starts on April 1st when Monet's garden opens in Giverny. Les Jardins des Plumes is properly set up to take care of the tourist trade. If the restaurant is to rely on repeat business, you will not have to book a table.

Monsieur,

i tried many times to answer your comment but for some reasons the site didn't worked, but it's very important for me to answer.

i will follow your comment to answer correctly your notice
the "cuisine" of our chef is less classical than some others restaurants, he likes to mix products from the sea and meat and to use some spices sometimes.
i'm sad that our "cuisine" didn't suit you

regarding the water i really apologize and it's of course not something that happen normaly in our restaurant

about the wine, i am really surprise because our sommelier likes to offer the clients to discover the wines that are not yet on the wine list as we were organizing this new book when you came.
he did ask you if you would prefer a classical chablis (at 40 euros) or a chablis "grand cru" (at 60 euros) but of course he should have told you that the price of the "grand cru" was at 20 euros more than the classical chablis.

for the oyster starter, the kitchen made the mistake and i myself came to check and found this bad surprise inside the plate of Madame and apologized of course.
but i'm very surprise when you say
"do not expect any type of excuse for anything. if you complain, in french or english, expect silence and a disapearing sommelier or waiter" as we organised just after an apologize dish with the scallops course and a foie gras for your friend who do not eat anything from the sea.

about the knife, and since your comment, we now ask our customers if they want to keep the knife for the entire lunch of dinner or if they prefer us to change it at every courses.
we actually work with somebody from Auvergne region in France who makes those knifes totally handmade and the point of view was for our customers to have always a sharp knife for their lunch or dinner

as well the water "mug" i as also a choice to work with an artist who make ceramic plates, cups and glasses, and we actually love her work, but if you asked us to change it for a regular glass we would have done it of course, we understand that our choices can't suit everybody.

i was really sad to read this comment as our team is really involved into their work to welcome people and as i would have prefered to know all those comments when you were here instead of reading them on internet.
it's not the way we want to communicate with our clients, comments are always good to listen when you just open a new establishment.
