“I Expected More”

More modern painters on display when we went and after visiting Monet's home/gardens this was a total disappointment. Did a quick walk through and then left. Nice building though.

“Slightly Misleadingly Named Museum”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

We were a little disappointed with this museum which we thought would offer some background to the impressionist art movement and provide clarity and understanding into the various impressionist painters/paintings. As another reviewer said most of the gallery space was devoted to an exhibition by a Japanese artist and we found we had allocated far more time than was needed.

The outside gardens of the museum were very pretty and there was a good shop. We ate an excellent lunch in the restaurant which had both indoor and outdoor seating so all in all we had a good visit just not what we had anticipated. One good point, however, was when paying the entrance fee you can opt to pay for a combined ticket with Monet's garden and then skip the queues at the gardens.

“Great little time filler”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

A little museum next to Monet's house and garden. It has an original Monet and many other artists. It's garden is also a work of art.

“Not What Is Expected”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

The current exhibit is of Japanese contemporary art. The idea is to show the influence on Monet & many other Impressionists when they looked to Japanese art. It was disappointing to see so little Impressionistic work. The panels & repetitious patterns on the paintings made a quick viewing experience for me. There just was not a lot to pull in the viewer. There was one lovely Monet garden painting on display show the influence he had on the current artist's works. All in all, it was very disappointing to me. I paid the big bucks to travel there to see the Impressionists in the Musee des Impressionnismes. Not to be. There was a lower level exhibit of Impressionists' works separate from the Japanese showing. It featured 10-12 noted artists' works. So I was happy to find that display. Basically, the curators missed the mark when they scheduled this exhibit.
