“Pefect ending of a morninig visit to Monet’s house and gardens”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

Angelina Baudy was an early female entrepreneur. She inherited a restaurant from her father, a farmer, and while her husband kept busy selling Singer sewing machines, she discovered the American painters who were visiting Giverny attracted by the incredible natural light of the place and in search of Monet. It did not take her long to open a hotel and boarding house and that’s where painters started congregating. Giverny is, to this day, patronized by painters and other art people. They are considerably less poor nowadays…
Lunch at the Maison Baudy is a winner: grilled jumbo shrimp of the type you get in the coastal areas of Normandy and Cornwall, huge, fleshy, tasteful, coming with a dip of butter melted with herbs and garlic and accompanied by rice and some fresh salad, it is a delight! We drink a litter of local rose and are ready to go back. Service is distracted at best, but by now we’ve reached the conclusion that this is to be expected in most places in France and are trying to not let it bother us. It has gotten quite warm, it is no longer spring time, but more like summer. We walk to the train instead of taking the shuttle: somebody has to work off the huge lunch which we top with some ice cream. What a joyful day!

“Historic Hotel with atmospheric dining room”
Reviewed May 2, 2014

The setting of restaurant Baudy is delightful. The menu is available in English and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. There is a price fixe menu with several options that even a teenager can find reasonable. The Steak and frites was a hit with our14 year old son. Make sure to visit the gardens in the rear as Cezanne was known to have put paint to canvas here.

“Great location, food was mediocre”
Reviewed April 30, 2014

The location is fantastic with outdoor seating in a Monet type setting. This is where the American artists lived in Ginervy. The food was mediocre. French onion soup was just so-so, the shrimp were not seasoned well. The goat cheese was very good and the duck salad was a killer.

“French impressions...”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

We ate dinner here the night before our much anticipated first visit to Monet's house and garden the following morning. It couldn't have been more perfect - good French food and wine, reasonably priced for such a wonderful atmosphere and venue. Loved it...especially the onion soup!

“Delicious Dining in a Beautiful Old Home”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

Our experience of Giverny on a warm spring afternoon was made complete -- and perfect -- by dinner in a site that would have been familiar to Monet as the shop where he bought his vegetables. The meal was delicious! Good, solid, country fare, carefully presented, and served with marvelous good cheer and warm hospitality. We befriended diners and neighboring tables, and it was clear that they were enjoying dining at Baudy as much as we were!
