I stayed here with my mother in September for 4 nights. We booked it for its historical charm, as it was owned by Monet and he used part of the grounds for his vegetable garden. The very hospitable Madam Etinault owns the house now and hosted breakfast each morning of super homemade jams and fresh croissant and baguette.
La Maison Bleue only accomodates one couple and the attic space was entirely ours, with a massive bathroom with deep bath, a little library area and a large french country style bedroom with pretty views of the surrounding hills and area. We enjoyed a little outdoors garden area with table and chairs for a glass of wine before heading out for an atmospheric scenic stroll up the main lane of Giverny past lots of historical buildings. It is a 15 minute walk to the Monet gardens and 5-10 mins walk along the main lane for the few restaurants in Giverny.
We really felt we had gone back in time to the early last century, as this area is really untouched, bar the very few cars that pass along. The main lane is blocked to cars at weekend but the side lane from the main road gave us access to the off road car parking at the front of the house and access out to the surrounding pretty villages.
I highly recommend this for couples looking to get away from the modern world to a place of peace, atmosphere, beauty, culture and history that is La Maison Bleue and Giverny.
