Well worth a visit despite the challenging walk up to the top of the hill from the city below (take a taxi next time?). Tells the story of the military battles that took place in and around Cherbourg as well as the privations undergone by local people. Splendid views from the hill top location over the town and harbour. A little knowledge of French would be helpful for English visitors.

Nice Museum with some very interesting photos and artifacts but limited english info details which really took from the exhibit. Also a video which was supposed to work was broken and only the audio was available. Great views of the city of Cherbourg but the road up to the Museum is terrible- no safety barriers and so narrow, I nearly had a heart attack. On a side note the tunnels are seperate from the Museum and while the Museum opens at 9 the tunnels only open at about half two.

Learn more about the D-Day Landings in this outstanding museum and enjoy the spectacular view of Cherbourg from its terrace.

Excellent museum in the Roule fort tells the story of the occupation of Cherbourg and its relief by the allies in 1944 lots of information accompanied by photographs film and models together with some of the equipment used all at a modest 4 euros we spent 2 hours quite happily.Only 2 draw backs unusually for France there is no refreshment facility and it is a steep and quite long walk to it there does not appear to be a bus service

I enjoyed the walk up to the fort and the panoramic view from the top was reward for the steep road. I love history but I only found the museum of moderate interest. Lots of enlarged photographs, a few posters, some displays of artifacts and detailed information on the Normandy Landings. There is an attempt to give a sense of the landings. A mock up of a beach view from the rear of an amphibious craft is one example, but it did not really add much in my opinion. Not a museum I would make a detour for but it merits a quick visit if you are nearby.
