A year since our last stay. What can I write different. Room spotless. Flat screen tv which receives BBC1 if you want to catch up on the news. Lovely hot running water in the bathroom. Comfy bed, crisp sheets, extra pillows in the wardrobe. Lovely fresh flowers in reception, not struck on the artificial flowers in the bedroom. So many places to eat nearby. Went back to La Pantagruel 2 minutes away. Lovely meat cooked indoors on a wood grill. Superb for meat eaters. Reception staff have been friendlier but still can't wait to return. Given code to let yourself in after 11pm, didn't need it on this occasion. Hope to return soon

We stayed here one night and selected a harbour view room.

Can't fault the location and whilst all the described services were available the hotel has a tired feel and is probably due an upgrade. A persistent oudour in the bathroom did not help.

We didn't dine but breakfast was good

Hotel Ambassadeur is perfectly located on the quayside in central Cherbourg, handy for ferries, shopping and restaurants, with a cheap public carpark only yards away. Our welcome was polite rather than warm. The hotel is a little shabby and would benefit from some refurbishing; our room was simple and comfortable. Continental breakfast was of the old bread/jam/coffee type with excellent orange juice, but overpriced at 7 euros. The room itself was good value at 60 euros. A good overnight stopping place.

We went to Normandy for the historic significance of the area and used Cherbourg / Ambassadeur Hotel as home base for the rental car / day trips to the surrounding countryside. This was a perfect place to stay, with very friendly owners who went out of their way to help us with every request - even replacing broken reading glasses! It is most unfortunate that we found ourselves in the middle of the October 2010 strikes and fuel shortages, but Madame. Pillard did her best to help and advise us through the crisis. The Ambassadeur is in an excellent location, was very clean and quiet and is an excellent value and yes, I would definitely stay here again.

I used this hotel to start a cycle touring holiday to La Rochelle, picking it because of its good reviews & central location, close to the ferry port & the old town. The staff were friendly & v helpful, the hotel was clean & efficient, a superb choice.
