My family and I stayed at the Hotel Astrid for 2 nights, we were very impressed with the cleanliness and querkiness of the hotel and we absoluetly adored the breakfast (which is served to your room). The children were also very well catered for. The location of the hotel is idea for having a walk around Caen although we used it as a stop over hotel, for which it was perfect. There is no parking at the hotel, other than street parking which is on a meter, however the owners of the hotel were more than accommodating to help us find somewhere to park with our trailer in tow! The owner of the hotel actually moved his own car to allow us to use his space - how polite was that! and set us all in good spirit for our following 2 nights stay. Thank you for a lovely stay and if we are ever in Caen again we will definitely use this hotel again.

Nothing to add to the previous excellent reviews. We stayed three nights and paid 59 Euros for a twin room. We had no car and used public transportation and our feet to get around. Really enjoyed the Normandy Museum in the Castle. Walked to the two Abbey's and enjoyed a real Tripe a la Caen at the Normandy Restaurant. Another excellent and reasonable lunch was at La Petite Auberge. No Tourists there. Everyone surprised that we were Americans and not Bristish. Took the bus along the coast to our next stop in Bayeux. Total cost for two was 14 Euros. We rented a car in Bayeux to tour D-Day beaches and go on to Brittany.

Our family of four was very comfortable during our one-night stay, and really enjoyed the breakfast delivered to our room. The hotel was central, and within an easy drive of the memorial museum.

We stayed here for 2 nights with kids aged 9 and 11 in a family room (2 double beds plus camp bed) and were more than satisfied. We decided to stay in Caen centre so we could experince the city as well as D Day beaches. Don't be out off by lack of a official parking for this hotel. We only had to circle the street (and it was staurday)once to find a spot nearby and car was perfectly safe overnight. You don't pay for on street parking on sundays. Lovely friendly woman at reception. Our room perfectly clean and adequate with en suite, plus room has tv and FREE wifi, which was great as we neeed laptop to research where we were going to stay next! Breakfast delivered to room is great, kids loved the hot chocolate and croissants. As regards restaurants nearby, La Taverne is large, lively, good value and fast service. Avoid the Boeuf & Cow, ignorant waiters and tiny portions plus nearly twice the cost as La Taverne. If you are concerned about staying at Astrid, don't be! We are a very fussy lot but you have to remember its not a five star. It delivers on all the essentials though- clean, efficient friendly and great location.

Stayed at Astrid with father and friends (2 x family rooms) for D-Day tour base.
Great hotel, clean, spacious rooms with friendly staff that were very accommodating.
As hotel is in the centre of Caen, parking is not available but we used the Castle underground parking @ 8 euros a day. (Only 5 mins walk).
Breakfast is continental in your room, your are asked a time and it was always on time.
Would highly recommend and would most certainly use again.

I looked and looked for the cheapest hotel I could find and this was it. What a gem! It was roomy and included a table and 4 chairs so we could sit and eat in the room. The kids could color at the table or watch tv. We had a balcony to dry clothes. The location was excellent, only a few minutes walk to the TI or the chateau and to plenty of shopping. The bus stop for bus #2 was right out front of the hotel and the main bus area is just down the street. We had no problems finding meals within a 2 minute walk for either take-out or eating at the restaurant. The kids LOVED the store front vending machine down by the port (2 blocks) and insisted we have a meal from it for one meal. it was fun to use. We traveled to Bayeux one day, the Memorial musem and -dday beaches another. It made a perfect homebase.

I had read the very good reviews of this hotel in Trip Advisor and booked it for three nights. I had specified that I required a non-smoking room due to cigarette smoke allergies. Unfortunately the room did have cigarette odour coming from the curtains. We asked the attendant if it could be possible to move to another room. He replied that it was full and that they couldn't. No offer for a different room for the next two days was made then, so we booked another hotel for the next two nights. When we left the next day they charged for two nights! We only stayed one. They claimed we had to give 48 hours notice! No apologies for the room were made. We need to say that every other hotel room (all non smoking) we have stayed in France this year has been perfecly free of tobacco smells. So well done everyone else.
