“The staff are awesome!”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

We arrived to find a parking space available, thank goodness! There are lots around the Hotel but we arrived after a 5 hours drive from Belgium and were so happy to park right in front for the night. We left prior to 9:30 a.m. the next morning so we did not have to pay for parking. The Hotel is very clean, nicely decorated and has a very good breakfast for 9 euro. The staff were very helpful with providing extra pillows and serving us drinks when we arrived back after each busy day. Our destination was visiting the Juno Beach Center and the grave site of my husband's Uncle who was killed in WW2, each were only 20 - 30 minutes away from the Hotel. It would be helpful to know that you need to go down to the harbor for the best restaurant choices. The Hotel does have a high end restaurant on site, but is closed both Sunday and Monday. But the staff advised us where to go when we asked.

Room Tip: We had a standard double and it was large enough and the shower was great!

Bearing in mind the two star rating there can be no serious complaints about this hotel. Our en suite room was not large but perfectly adequate and clean. The double bed was large and comfortable. Not suitable for a disabled or infirm person as the lift (surely the smallest I've ever seen) stops between floors so there are stairs to negotiate. Breakfast is the usual continental affair, fresh bread, ham, cheese, jam etc. Our room was at the front of the hotel but still reasonably quiet. Staff are friendly.

Reception staff friendly and helpful. They directed us to the "smallest lift in the world" - they were not lying!! Fitted 2 people and suitcases just about but better than nothing. It wasn't an issue for us.

The room was a decent size. We had a triple which was a family room - a double and a single. It was spotlessly clean and the bathroom was clean and a fair size too. It had a shower attachment but it was not mounted to the wall so you had to hold it whilst washing which was not ideal. Bit of a spray the wall situation a few times.

We only had one pillow each and the receptionist was unsure if she would be able to find an extra one each for us, but she did rustle us up some.

There was no air con and it was during a hot spell so it was incredibly warm in the room. We had the windows and curtains open all the time to get air in. For some reason despite not looking like a particularly busy street it was really noisy especially at night. Also it is not far from St Pierre church and there are a number of other churchs nearby so there was a lot of bell ringing, especially on a Saint's day while we were there. I wasn't particularly bothered by this but my friends found it hard to sleep. I guess this would not be such an issue when the weather is cooler and the window is shut.

Could have done with an extra plug socket in the room, we could only find one.

The hotel is clean but quite tired-looking and in need of decoration. There is a restaurant attached which we didn't use but looked nice.

We could see the chateau from our room, there was a creperie next door and if you cross the road there is a little square with several restaurants and bars including a lovely Italian restaurant called Vesuvius, we liked it so much we went twice. It is a two minute walk to the main shopping area, bus stops etc (Caen has good public transport).

For a city centre hotel the price was good and the room was clean and comfortable. It was not fancy or luxurious but it did the job.

looking for a place to stay overnight during our travel to Bretagne summer holidays. Caen was our chosen city to visit. Hotel had quite small rooms (bathroom door didn't open completely, bed in the way. But we asked two rooms that are communicating, we got a nice 'apartment' by rooms that had another extra door to separate from the rest. The restaurant at the hotel was also of good value. Breakfast was surely OK, kids being free so we had to pay for 3 of 6 persons. Baby bed was put in room for free. One of the kids had to pay. In general price was good for value. We paid about 150 euro for 3 adults and 3 kids between 1 and 5 years old, excluding breakfast. We got two bedrooms, each with bathroom (one shower, one with bath).
Beds not of the greatest quality, yet OK.

The location of this hotel adjacent to Chateau Ducal, shopping and restaurants was excellent. The drawback was the shortage of parking which was a healthy walk away. The hotel was adequate but was the noisiest ever. Don't get me wrong - this wasn't noise from guests, it was a complete lack of sound isolation. I can understand outside noise, though this was excessive. I can even understand hearing all of the doors closing up and down the corridor. But when you can hear someone using the bathroom in another room that's hard to defend.

We stayed here for a few days during a trip to France in 2011. The location is great -- in the town centre and just a short distance from the castle. The rooms had been recently renovated, and although ours was a bit on the small side for two people and their luggage, it was very clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was nice. We were also on the top floor, so we had a balcony overlooking part of the old central town.

As others have noted, the elevator stops at "half" floors in between the floors with the rooms, which means that you'll have to walk up (or down) a half-flight of stairs to get to your room. You'll also have to carry your luggage up/down the same stairs. This wasn't a problem for us, but might be for someone with limited mobility. The noise from the elevator could be a bit distracting at times, but we didn't find it too bad. The breakfasts were nice, and there's no shortage of things to see, do, and eat within easy walking distance.

Very good location near the castle, transportation and the old city.
The hotel has been recently renovated. We had a superior double for about 90 euros. Decent size room and bathroom, good shower. The room was very clean.
Elevator stops at "half" floors so you have to walk a half flight of stairs to get to your room.
There are a few free parking spots in front of the hotel, but you have to be lucky to get one. There is parking very near, under the chateau, for about 10 euros for 24 hours.
