Tucked in among the modern buildings we nearly walked right by it. It is so sad to see it is not allocated the funding for maintenance of other buildings. If it is a sunny day and you parked near the Men's Abby and you have time to walk over to it then it is worth the walk. If you are short on time then this might be the attraction to simply read about to make time for others. The building does not adequately convey its importance in history.

This church is exquisite: light and well designed. You can walk in the open area of the Abbaye, but it is open only in the PM by guided tour.

Loved this quiet, unassuming abbey. Was made extra special as there was a gentleman playing the organ which added to the atmosphere.

Nicely located at the eastern end of Caen, this elegant abbey was curiously deserted at the weekend when I visited. The guided tours had been cancelled for no obvious reason, there was hardly a soul around - but all rooms were open. There was a small gallery of paintings, all of them scenes of Normandy in the Impressionist manner but by unknown artists. In another room there was an installation consisting of films of Walks in Norway. Both rooms were empty but for a bored-looking attendant, one of whom was playing a mindless game on an iPad! A cushy job if every there was one, as this abbey seems to get few visitors. If you have time on your hands, you can stroll around here for an hour or so and admire the old building and pleasant gardens.

Caen city itself isn't anything special but the cathedral has nice grounds and an excellent tomb for William the Conqueror. But it's really the only real attraction in this rather disappointing city.
