I found this hotel by searching -- where else? -- on Trip Advisor before my side trip to Normandy during a two week Paris trip. What a delight! The hotel is modern and fun. The room was huge! There was a great little kitchen, which my husband and I made use of. We were able to enjoy coffee on our schedule -- we're earlier risers than the French. Our room overlooked the canal. The bathroom was stocked with wonderful products. Even better was that the hotel was about 3 blocks from the train station, which just sealed the deal. The staff was the cherry on top: friendly, professional, and always available. You will not be disappointed!

We returned from this hotel on Sunday 23rd September. The hotel is right in the centre of all the shops. My partner had never been to Caen before and was really impressed with what it had to offer and we both found the hotel impeccably clean and immaculately presented. Brittany Ferries are currently on strike which meant that we had to stay an extra night, and then when we got ourselves booked onto the next ferry out that was then cancelled and the reception staff were absolutely fantastic. They all spoke good English and were more than happy to help us two little confused 20 year olds in finding out where the nearest ports, train stations and airports were and also the cost of the transport, even though we'd already checked out.
I could not recommend this hotel more if you are travelling for business or leisure and need to be in the centre of Caen as the other hotels in the area look very run down and most are only 1 or 2 stars. I would also recommend a restaurant called "Les Touristes Cafe" which is opposite Macdonals not far from the big church in the centre. Great food, massive portions, relatively priced. Please feel free to contact me if you need any more information as we certainly spent a lot of time in the hotel and in the local area trying to keep ourselves busy until we could get home!

PS. Please don't let our experience of ferry cancellations cloud your judgement on booking with Brittany Ferries as it was a last minute decision by the union to strike and Brittany Ferries arranged all transport free of charge for us to get home safely and their staff did everything they could for us given their difficult working conditions.

Room Tip: Although the rooms at the front corner of the hotel have a great view the outside traffic might keep...

We were there for eight nights in total for a sporting event based in Caen. The hotel is just on the South side of the Orne River (not the canal as suggested by a recent reviewer - that's a few hundred metres away), walking distance from major locations in the City and close to the station. The rooms have a kitchenette with induction hob, microwave, fridge, sink and dishwasher, and we cooked for ourselves on several evenings. The space was OK, the bathroom was excellent.

There is also an ironing board, iron and hairdryer in the room.

Good choice at the (cold) breakfast. There is gated parking behind the hotel (I believe you pay, although I was not paying for my own stay). There is also street parking opposite with tickets from a meter, for mornings or afternoons - free at lunchtime and overnight.

There is wifi on the ground floor or an ethernet system in the room - the hotel will lend you a cable, and there is then a choice of a low-power free service (OK for emails and browsing), otherwise you pay for 'haut debit'. A small niggle was that you have to reapply for the free service every 24 hours.

My only real gripe was the choice of TV channels on the room TV. As well as French channels (of course) there is a wide variety german and other european language channels - but only news / business channels in English, and even BBC World Service can get a bit boring.

Room Tip: Some of the ground floor rooms are off a corridor which gives access to the rear car park - you migh...

We have stayed one night in this hotel. Compared with the Chambres d'hotes, this hotel is very "impersonal". However, it is well located, and very clean. For those that like cooking their own meal, there is a small kitchen. The bed is very comfortable.

Breakfast is ok, fruit, bread, milk, etc.. Fairly good quality.

Fantastic hotel, great location beside the canal. Stayed here for 1 night after travelling by ferry from Portsmouth. Wish we could have stayed longer to see more of the city. Hotel spotlessly clean, great bed, slept like a log. Beautiful kitchenette and bathroom.Who could ask for more. Also staff were great and there was secure parking at the back only 5Euros,thought it was well priced. Would definitely stay again.

Only stayed for one night, wish it had been more. Great location beside the canal. Rooms are finished to a great standard and are spotless. Rooms are complete with microwave, fridge, dishwasher and everything required to cook a meal if you were wanting to stay indoors. Comfy bed and great shower. Only fault was the strong smell of cigarette smoke in the bathroom, apart from that I would definitely reccommend the Adagio to people visting Caen.

We recently stayed at Adagio for 2 nights. We arrived at around 9am in the morning as we had been on the overnight ferry from Portsmouth. Although check-in wasn't until 3pm, and there weren't any rooms free at that time in the morning, the receptionist said that she would make a request so that a room was cleaned immediately once someone had checked out. So we left the luggage at the hotel and went for a wander around Caen for a little while. The hotel is just by the river and is a 10 minute easy stroll to Rue St Pierre / the castle etc which are in the centre of town. We went back to the hotel around 11am and were in luck - a room was now available and had been cleaned. The rooms are large with a good size, comfy bed. There is a flat screen tv, plenty of storage space, a kitchenette area with fridge, microwave, cooker, sink and lots of plates/glasses etc. The bathroom was nice and modern with a good shower. It was great to have the kitchenette area so that we could buy lots of delicious french cheeses and bread to enjoy for breakfast during our stay. The hotel is in a good location, with lots of restaurants close by. We had a good stay and would definitely stay at the Adagio again.
