Hotel La Consigne - Caen

My wife and I and my Brother stayed at La Consigne in April of 2014. This hotel is in a great location across from the train station and town rail/bus stop. We were greeted by Regis who is friendly and energetic. We are not good at speaking French and he was trying his best to speak english. What we lacked in communication, Regis more than made up for in his friendly charm. In the week that we stayed we got to know both Regis and Jonathan. Both young men were very helpful and even packed lunches for us for. The food at La Consigne was good and the restrooms were clean. Our rooms were what we expected for the price range. The Town of Caen is rich in history (Including William The Conqueror’s Tomb) and should be on your list of places to visit in the Normandy area. Be sure to visit the tourist bureau that is across from Saint Pierre Church by the ATM (also handy). If you use this town as a base to see the beaches at Normandy we advise you to go to the next train stop at Bayeux (about a 20 minute train trip from Caen) there you can catch a bus to the gold beach. You can book excursions including Mount Saint Michelle from the Tourist Bureau. We left Hotel La Consigne feeling like we had made new friends in Regis and Jonathan. We greatly enjoyed our stay at La Consigne and the Caen area.

Room Tip: If you simply ask Jonathan or Regis they will do what they can to help you. These two are great hos...

I stayed here as I was traveling through Caen to see the beaches of Normandy. While the room was very small, it was clean, conveniently located, had Wifi, and the staff was friendly and helpful. It is right across the street from the train station and the access for the local tram, which can easily get you to the inner city quickly.

For train travelers, this little hotel is a convenient location across from the train station.
The owner/manager were nice people and very hospitable. Excellent service. Clean and fresh rooms. Everything nicely maintained. Breakfast was simple and nourishing.
The room was SMALL. The bathroom even smaller. We were traveling as a couple and it was almost laughable to navigate around the room and bathroom with the two of us and our luggage.
We had a rental car and there was no parking lot. I was a little concerned about on-street parking, but we had no problems.
If you're looking for simple, basic no-frills accommodations, this hotel will fill the bill.

We spent one night here on our way from Paris, heading towards Bayeux. This proved to be a great choice; we arrived around 8 pm but exited the wrong exit from the train station and could not find the hotel (it's across the tracks and on the other side of a wide road if you exit on the wrong side like we did). Oddly, local restaurants and hotels (on the other side of the station) did not know where this hotel was located. We finally found it and were warmly received. Our room was immaculate but quite small, it was fine for one night. We paid 59 euros in December. The best part, however, was the late dinner in the restaurant. I ordered quiche lorraine with a salad and it was the best quiche I have ever eaten! Breakfast the next morning (7 euro more) was fresh and tasty! Highly recommended if you need a convenient spot in Caen for a night or two. Very nice family who runs this place and English is spoken. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The hotel was in a wonderful location directly across from the railroad station making it very convenient for the pick up from Peace Museum staff for the WWII tour and for taking the tram for some sightseeing of the town. We were warmly received and helped to our room. The continental breakfast provided more than enough to eat to start the day. This was the right choice for our 2 days in Caen and a place to which we would certainly return in in Caen again..

Room Tip: Room was facing the street and still quiet. Rooms are a bit small, very clean and all you need if y...

Checked in thru the bar. Bartender took up our luggage. The room was small yet clean. The family lives on the 3rd floor. We had a quick glass of wine in the owners bar, but the smokers outside were not kind, smoking directly in the doorway and filling the bar with smoke.

Took a very long walk down along the water inlets and found a great row of restaurants and bars. After dinner walked thru the sailboats and back to hotel.

The hotel is across the street, 20 seconds really, from the train station. Although the area looked safe, a single person should take care at night. There were homeless people sleeping on the ledges of the train station. Felt uneasy having our window open, as the 2nd floor has a long ledge running the length of the building.

Left too early in the morning to have breakfast, but grabbed a nice crescent and coffee at the train station.

Very close to the train station. Rooms really good. Staff very helpful. Not a lot of choice for place to eat. Happy to keep our luggage while we backtracked to Bayeux. Good wifi

Surrounding area not so good.
