My wife and I escaped from the kids for a night and booked The Tardif the day before and booked a Junior Suite for a small suplement.
We arrived before reception was open (there is no permanent reception, the proprietor greets guests between certain times) and wandered around Bayeux for the afternoon. On returning we were greeted by Anthony who showed us through the house to our suite before parking our car for us in the grounds. The house and our room were beautifully decorated with period-style furniture giving the impression of staying in a stately home (but with modern facilities and plumbing !).
Anthony had already prepared a guide to the best eating places in the town and helped us choose a perfect restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
Breakfast was typically French and the food was of a very high standard and served in the period dining room.
The proprietor has furnished the hotel to a very high standard which made the stay unforgettable but this is NOT a typical "hotel" and I would say is not suitable for children. Other guests have commented on Anthony's attitude but he takes great pride in his guest house (as it is advertised) and we found him charming and helpful.
Le Tardif is a perfect place to enjoy a romantic and very different stay in Bayeux.
