“Comfortable and well located”
Reviewed April 21, 2009

The hotel is comfortable and only a five minute walk from the superb Bayeux cathedral, which is visible from the breakfast room. Staff very friendly. Rooms basic but again comfortable and fit for purpose. Limited (chargeable) off road parking available but street parking would be OK, road relatively quiet and safe. Standard continental style breakfast - chargeable. Location is very convenient for viewing the delightful city of Bayeux, plenty of restaurants within a 10-20 minute walking radius. Only negative is the cost of wi-fi which reallly ought to be complimentary in this day and age.

Charming and friendly hotel in Bayeux (run by its owner and her family) was a great base to explore Normandy. Walkable to Bayeux Tapestry and right in the very French small town. Simple rooms but large and well suited for our family. Relaxing self-serve breakfast in upstairs room. Helped with dinner reservations at nearby restaurant, directions, parking on site, laundry service. We chatted wtih other families travelling and enjoyed ourselves very much.

My wife and I couldn't see what all the fuss is about.

The best thing about the place is its location which is certainly convenient.

However the hotel itself is shabby and not in the characterful way that you sometimes find in France. The carpets in the rooms and common areas were horrid.

We found the management to be unhelpful and overbearing, bordering on unwelcoming.

Breakfast is over-priced for the bland offerings provided.

The parking arrangements are interesting. Drivers have to back into a narrow alley, avoiding other cars on one side and the alley wall on the other. It is not for the faint hearted! Also, they charged us $15 for the excitement!! They know they have you over a barrel because the street parking is too risky.

Overall this hotel is tolerable for an overnight stay but would be very disappointing if you had booked it for a longer period.

We won’t be going back and we can’t recommend the place.

We were welcomed at the door by Mireille, who had cooresponded with us by email prior to our arrival. She greeted us kindly and put us (my wife and in-laws) in a large room just off the lobby. Before we settled in, she offered to put us in individual rooms for no additional charge, a favor we greatly appreciated. Rooms were fine for the great value and she was in the process of remodeling and upgrading. Breakfast in the morning was good and we were just a two minute walk to Place Quebec to meet the tour guide (Victory Tours). Mireille watched our car while we spend the day visiting the sites of Normandie. An incredible experience which I highly recommend.

What a great bargain in the beautiful town of Bayeux! I had no idea what to expect when my husband wanted to take a D-Day tour and we chose Bayeux as our home base.

This little town became our favourite spot on our 2 week vacation in Europe. The town itself is picturesque, small and friendly and we had some of the best food we have ever had in this town. I want to go back just for the camembert (spelling?)

Anyways, we chose Hotel Le Bayeux because of the incredible price. It was inexpensive compared to the others I was looking at. The woman who runs the place was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and I love any place where we're given a map and shown where all the sights are.

The room was nice and we had plenty of room. It was probably one of the biggest rooms we've had while in Europe. The bathroom was great and always hot water (and a huge shower!).

Breakfast was a buffet style of croissants, cheeses and cereals which was wonderful for a light breakfast.

You're given a code to enter the hotel if you're back past 9 pm. We had no problems but make sure you keep it with you! We didn't think we'd be out that late as the entire town shuts down early but we met a nice couple at dinner and sat talking with them until closing.

There's also a lovely little jack russell terrier that one of the ladies who works at the hotel owns. Made us miss our own puppy back home. Incredibly cute! :o)

Overall, a fantastic stay at a great hotel!!

Hotel Le Bayeux is fantastic. We originally had reservations for 2 nights, but we weren't able to make it there for the first night and we were not charged the penalty fee. Mirielle was extremely helpful and super nice. Our room was perfectly comfy w/ a pretty good size bathroom. The hotel itself is really easy to find from the train station. It's about a block away from the Cathedral, the Tapestry, and the center of the city. Breakfast was great....I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Bayeux!

Booked this hotel not knowing what to expect. Were using Bayeux as a base to tour around the Normandy area, visit the DDay Beaches and cemetaries.
Staff was excellent at giving touring advice. They provided maps, outlined routes, and circled highlights.
Parking was not plentiful, in fact we for some reason weren't even offered, it was suggested we park down the street in a free parking lot.
Rooms were clean, normal European sized. Beds were not new by any means, but comfortable all the same.
