Hotel le Bayeux is a comfortable, spit-spot clean, well-run hotel in the sleepy town of Bayeux. Our 10 and 5 year old loved the bunk beds in the family room. Plus their free WiFi was excellent!!! Great value.

We recently stayed at this hotel. We chose it mostly for the price, but found it was far more valuable than the price. We booked a 3 bed room for 3 adults. The rooms was not large, but we didn't come to spend time in the room. The beds and room were comfortable. A separate toilet allowed more efficient prep in the morning. But what made this hotel special was the staff. They helped us arrange a last minute 1/2 day tour of D-Day sites. The next day we wanted to visit Mont St. Michel. We weren't sure how we would get there. They helped us arrange a rental car, had as assistant personally drive us to the rental agency, and were able to pick it up the night before but only charged rent for the following day. The manager also advised us to go very early. Great advice, as we arrived at sunup and had the place to ourselves (normally wall to wall people). Great value, nice accommodations, but what set this place apart was the friendly and helpful staff. They made our visit memorable.
The best thing about this hotel is the location - very close to the cathedral and the pedestrian-only zone. The room was adequate in size but with no extras - no air conditioning, no in-room coffee supplies, no fridge. The beds were very uncomfortable, and the sound insulation in the hotel was very poor. We could hear alarm clocks going off in other rooms, and footsteps in the hallway woke us up throughout the night. The breakfast was adequate but with a limited selection and limited amounts of food that were not replenished during the breakfast service. Staff were usually busy in the office and not particularly friendly or helpful.
Stayed here with two friends, for 2 nights in November 2010. Le Bayeux is a modest country-style hotel which is warm and welcoming, and the location is fantastic: a few minutes walking from everything.
The triple room was very clean and comfortable, basic and functional, and at 50€ was an incredible bargain (although we got a good deal because we were out of season). Toilet and bathroom are en-suite, Wi-Fi is free and works very well in the lobby, but worked so-so in the room. There is no safe for valuables in the room. The front desk is closed after 7pm, but you can come and go as you please with key/security code.
We did not pay for the hotel’s limited parking (for which they charge 10€) as there is free parking on the street and also a free 24-hour municipal parking (called Parking d’Ornano) 300 metres from the hotel.
We chose not to pay for the hotel’s breakfast, opting instead to eat in the town. Two great breakfast places are Maison Lemoisson (a small bakery with divine “pain au chocolat”) and Le Maupassant café (both on rue St-Martin). Great places for dinner are Le Bistrot de Paris (on Place St-Patrice) and Reine Mathilde resto-bar (on rue Larcher).
Bayeux is a great base for D-Day sightseeing, and for a small town has a surprisingly fun (although limited) nightlife, especially on weekends. Try pubs La Paillote (near Place St-Patrice) and Pub Fiction (on rue du Petit Rouen).
Overall Hotel Le Bayeux was very satisfying, good quality for the price, and I would definitely stay there again.
I stayed in Hotel le Bayeux with 3 of my teenage kids. We liked the room for 4 people. It was large and beds were comfortable but my kids thought it was kind of strange sleeping in a bunk bed. We had two twin beds and a bunk bed. The shower is connected to the rest of the bathroom so we got the entire bathroom floor wet every time we used it. Our room was right off the lobby and was quite noisy. You could hear everyone in the lobby. The owner was great. As we pulled out of the parking lot to leave she stood in the street and waved an American flag and wished us bon voyage. We enjoyed the hotel's quirkiness and would definately stay here again. It's just a short walk to everything in town.
This was my 2nd stay at Le Bayeaux, and I was pleased with the value and friendly staff. The breakfast could be improved, and I wish they had a lift, but it's a good stay for the money, and a convenient base for your Normandy tour.
