We were in room 5, a twin room looking out toward the cathedral. The room and bath were large for the money (58 euros per night) and there was even a flat screen TV! But French towns and cities in general are loud if you are from the suburbs in the states. The wonderful food means there are daily deliveries (usually between 5 and 6 am) and most of the trucks have loud deisel engines. If you have difficulty sleeping through street noise, definitely keep the windows closed. That is my only criticism. Otherwise this was a gem of a find and I would stay there again.

We only stayed here two nights and I wish it were for longer. We traveled here from Paris by train and walked to the hotel (about 10 minutes). The town of Bayeux is a hidden gem. I chose the hotel for its closeness to the Normandy tours pick up point (maybe 100m from the hotel). We used the Battle Bus and it was great. You owe it to yourself to visit the Normady beaches with a personal guide in a smallish 8 passenger bus. I want to do it again. The hotel was clean and the rooms were nice. bathrooms were on the smallish side but i don't live in that room so it was okay. Breakfast was fine, not great, but it worked for us. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were very quiet. There are a number of restaurants in the town and if you want to spend a little more than normal, Le Rapier has a great fixed price meal (33 Euro) that is the best bargain in town. I must say it was the best meal we had in Europe, if not ever. Anyway, the hotel is great and at a very reasonable price. I would definitely stay there again.

As a frequent visitor to the Normandy coast, and Bayeux in partricular, you will not have a problem in finding good quality eating places in this town (refer to Trip Advisor restuarants for details). However, having recently eaten at the Reine Mathilde, this restuarant certainly deserves a mention. Centrally located between the Post Office and the Bayeux Tapestry, the restuarant is open from 0730-2200hrs and is always busy. The menu is quite varied with average prices and service from the staff was very efficient. One day I thought I would have a Croque Monsieur, but noticed on the menu that they also had Croque Scandanavian (smoked salmon) - out of this world!! The chips had a unique shape to them and looked and tasted homemade. My wife had a Tarte tatin which was equally mouthwatering - almost half an apple in the tart. We will certainly be making a return visit to this restuarant on our next trip to Bayeux.

Didn't really have any problems during our 2-nights stay at this hotel (apart from they forgot to tell any of our party of 12 that the doors were locked after a certain time and that there was a code needed to get in - a certain amount of ingenuity was needed on our part to get in!).

Stayed here for one night - and got stuck with Room 6 which is the room with a view of the kitchen fan. Wonderful if you like the sounds and smells of food being prepared and dishes being washed. We made do since it was only for one night. The room is very compact as is the bathroom and the furniture quite old. The staff is very helpful and the location is excellent - especially if you plan on taking one of the d-day tours in the morning or visiting the Tapestry - the hotel is immediately adjacent to both. The restaurant is very good - i recommend the pizza and the entrecote (grilled ribeye steak). Considering the price, the hotel is a very good value, just don't expect more than you would at your local Motel 6, lol.

My partner and I spent 3 delightful nights in The Reine Matilde, after spending a week in the Dordogne. The convenient free car park is very handy and crosses the delightful little canal to the relaxed terrace of the hotel. Getting upstairs with suitcases can be a litttle bit of a struggle, but our room was comfortable, clean and the bathroom had a great shower. the window overlooked the County Hall and the Cathedral and we were delighted by the cathedral bells.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellant value, with lovely fresh bread and croissants, as well as fresh fruit salad, yoghourt and boiled eggs and cheese. Dinner in the restaurant was very hearty, with well cooked local specialities. The bar was also a welcome stop for a beer after a day of sightseeing.
We both agree, the Reine Mathilde provides very good value for money. We would be deighted to return!
