“GREAT STAFF”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2013

At the front desk, we were met by Guillume who helped us through our 3 day stay. His sense of humor kept us in stitches and his advice was invaluable. Every morning Dauphine's smile got our day off to a fun start. Rooms, food, location, etc were all very good, but these two made our stay truly enjoyable and memorable.

Our recent trip to France took a downward turn when my husband ended up with a 3 day hospital stay and I ended up in a cast and on crutches. This sweet little hotel was perfectly located very much "in town" with a view of the cathedral. The staff were extremely attentive to me and my difficulties, everyone from the owners to the restaurant/bar staff were knowledgeable and accommodating. The hotel has small, extremely clean rooms with wonderfully comfortable linens. The restaurant has wonderful food beginning with breakfast and ending with late drinks and dessert. It seems that locals use the restaurant, Le Garde Manger, as well as hotel guests. Our 5 day stay required 3 room changes (all handled by the staff) because we didn't know exactly when we could leave. The only reason that the rating is "only" very good, is that the last room (#8, I believe) is over the kitchen and the noise and smells are a negative. Also the furnishings of this room are "tired" when compared to the other rooms we were in. Would I stay there again? Absolutely! Would I recommend this to friends? Absolutely! A word about Bayeux - it's a little gem. A must see while in Normandie - the cathedral and the Bayeux Tapestry are worth the stop alone. It's a friendly town with good restaurants and shopping that are easily accessible by foot.

Room Tip: Ask for street side rooms - view of the cathedral. Street side noise, but it settles down early eno...

We had a wonderful "apartment" for our stay; very clean, the king bed was perfect, especially after a long day of traveling. It is located within an easy 10 minute or so walk from the train station with light luggage. Most of the Normandy tour companies pick up directly behind the hotel, also very convenient. The restaurant food and service was excellent and very reasonable as well. Free WiFi is available in a limited area around the hotel office. This is certainly the place we would recommend for anyone staying in Bayeux.

This really is a great location for visiting the D-Day sites. Also, not too bad of a drive to Mont St, Michel. My stay was for three nights at the end of September. Room: Mine was on the upper floor (9, facing the main street) and as stated, there were a few stairs. Not anything to worry about though. Room was very clean each day I was there. Size of the room was good and the bedding was very comfortable. Washroom was good size with a typical European size shower stall, no tub. The only thing I would of liked to have would of been A/C, as it was abnormally warm the first couple of nights. I did not think when making the reservations for the end of September, that A/C would be a needed. But that's just me. I like it cool to frigid while sleeping. Restaurant was great. Ate there most of the time. The breakfast buffet that the have in the morning is quite good. Warning, it is not a egg, meat, potatoe, pancake, etc.. buffet. It has your coffee, tea, juice, milk, cereal, fruit, yogurt, cheese, hard boiled egg, croissants, breads and I believe some sliced meats. Found it to be very good for starting off the day. The staff: They were great. Wouldn't let me carry up my own bag. They insisted on doing it for me. They also seem to pull double duty between the front desk and the restaurant at times. So if no one is at the front desk, just go into the restaurant (five steps) and ask for assistance. Parking: The free public parking is not at all very far from the hotel Five to ten minute walk just right down the street (not far from the round about). We dropped off our bags first, then parked the car. All in all, I would definitely come back here the next time in Bayeux.

Room Tip: Room 9 faces the main street and the post office. Room 7, not so good for the view. It looks out a...

We stayed for three nights, and were very happy. There were quite a few stairs up to our room, which was on the top floor, but we didn't mind. The room was very clean and comfortable, and very quiet, which was great. The restaurant runs from early until late at night. We had dinner there on our first night, and it was very reasonably priced, and delicious. Staff were very helpful and friendly, one waitress even lent us cutlery so we could have a picnic. I would definitely recommend!

Stayed here for 4 nights and would stay a lot longer, small Hotel I believe 14 rooms which just adds to the character. Staff is very friendly, food was fantastic and prices were very reasonable. A large selection of restaurants are no more than a 10 minute walk away.

The location would be hard to beat. Normandy tours start within fifty meters of the hotel. All city sites are within walking distance, and free parking is available within three blocks. We had two rooms. Lack of AC makes the hotel a dubious choice for August. Noise from the street and the (excellent) hotel bar means that you should expect to stay up until at least 23:00. Mattresses, while not quite uncomfortable, could stand an upgrade for next year. Staff and hotel owners are first rate. Restaurant is very good. View of cathedral is superb.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not front to rue Larcher or overlook the bar/restaurant.
