Very friendly staffs, comfortable beds, nice clean rooms and bathrooms. Very good location. Would definately stay again if in Bayeux again. Restaurant is quite nice too and outdoor terrase is great in summer. Breakfast buffet could have a bigger selection.

The four of us arrived at Hotel Reine Mathilde weary and exhausted after nearly 20 hours of planes, trains and automobile travel. A pleasant hotel employee brought us to our room which was located in the annex building on the ground floor immediately as you walk in.

Unfortunately we noticed right away that there was a fairly strong, mildew odor that other Tripadvisor reviewers have noted as well. Beyond that, the room was situated so that the windows look out onto the busy alleyway - directly at eye level. Essentially people were walking right by our windows with the ability to look right in. So obviously we had to keep the curtains completely closed or be on stage.

While the other side of the room had windows overlooking a small canal, they also offered a direct, street-level view right into our room from a different alley. Needless to say, with four of us in the small, dark room, and no light coming in, it felt very cramped and claustrophobic.

Moreover, it was situated directly next to the main door of the annex building and from the moment we arrived, it opened and slammed closed incessantly.

After inquiring at the front desk about staying in a different room, we were told the hotel was booked for that evening but that they could move us the next day, which they did.

Once we were relocated to an upstairs room in the annex, it was a great stay at the Reine Mathilde. The location of the hotel couldn't be better, the room was clean, bright and served us well for our travels throughout the Normandy region. We enjoyed several glasses of wine at the café, as well as, one breakfast which was fine but not necessarily worth 8 euros per person.

Consider walking to the nearby street market and grabbing some fresh fruit, crepes or other offerings. Or, do as we did, which was to visit the local grocery store located just a couple blocks over and purchase baguettes, jam and yogurt on your own. We enjoyed our ad hoc Bayeux breakfasts very much and saved ourselves a considerable amount of money by hitting the store instead of the restaurant.

Overall, we'd definitely return to the Reine Mathilde. We'd just make sure to avoid the first-floor annex room.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the first-floor annex room.

Just stayed for a weekend and found the hotel and rooms clean and comfortable. Fantastic location in the centre within very short walk of both cathedral and tapestry. The integral restaurant was a real treat with excellent service and food. The restaurant was very popular with people queuing for tables later in the evenings so to avoid hassle plan to be seated by 7pm on Friday or Saturday nights. Loved it!

Room Tip: The rooms are off a steep staircase and the higher the room number the higher the room. We were in...

We had two rooms here. It is a beautiful place, right next to a canal. Well located in downtown, near the cathedral and the tapestry. We stayed the night here after we spent the day our on the D-day beaches. Our girls had the new apartment room in the annex just a few steps away from the main building, with a kitchenette, and it was really nice. Wife and I had a standard room that was actually quite large and comfortable next to them. We loved it.

Decided to have breakfast the next AM for 8.50. It was a pretty good buffet, with lots of coffee, rolls, cheese, yogurt, juice and cereal. I like lots of coffee in the morning, and this was a nice change from the one-cup cafe's. Croissants were quite good.

Staff was very helpful too. I would stay here again.

Nice location close to tour departure point but when we got inside room #8 it was hot, first issue no air conditioning. Opened the window, second issue strong food smells from the restaurant kitchen and clanking dishes until late in the night. We were so ready to leave after the second night. I would recommend paying more to be comfortable and get a good night's sleep. Also no tv channels in English not even a news channel. Also, had to get the hair dryer each morning from the front desk.

Room Tip: Do not stay in room 8.

Good price for value hotel. Tiny rooms and a bit 70s but very reasonable prices and superfriendly staff. There is a restaurant with outside seating that serves great food. That does it. Not much more to say.

Room Tip: Comfy bed but very small rooms.

Having read a lit of the good reviews on here we were looking forward to our (one night stay here ).
We knew the room would be small ( size advised at booking ) but our room no.15 had only a velux window, looking out into the extractor chimney from the kitchen.
What to do - open and have the kitchen smells, closed and have no fresh or cool air ?
Im sure some rooms would be better, but for us rather disappointing.
