We were in Bayeux a few weeks ago, and found the restuarants in this small town to be exceptionally good. L'Alchiimie Restaurant was the first place we had dinner. It's quite charming, not a huge place, and quiet, unlike alot of places these days. The emphasis on local and traditional ingredients results in innovative and wonderful preparations. Our dinner was great, and a delightful experience being there in the cozy space. The staff at Hotel le Bayeux told us about this restaurant. We had spent 5 days in Paris before coming to Bayeux, and would have to say that all the restaurants we visited in Bayeux were at least a notch or two above the places in Paris. Would recomend highly to anyone who is staying in Bayeux....

Owned by young couple, husband the chef, wife does all the rest. Food was great, I had kangaroo and my wife had beef. We shared a trio of Crete brûlée for dessert. Nice warm atmosphere, with interaction with other diners. Chef/owner came out at the end of the night and chatted with us - nice touch. We were seated without a reservation, but it is small so to be sure reserve a table.

Our hotel recommended this restaurant, just a short walk away. They open at 7 pm, and will not seat any earlier. Must have a reservation as people were turned away. Delicious appetizer, for the entree we were completely unsure of what do order as all items were outside of our comfort zone. My whole fish came with skin and bones and was very difficult to eat without also consuming the bone. Overall we did enjoy the meal though.

A waitress at another (full) Bayeux restaurant recommended L'Alchimie to us and are we ever glad! We count out dinner here as one of our top 3 meals during a 2 week visit to France filled with wonderful meals. The restaurant is charming in it's simple, modern decor -- a nice contrast to the many more traditional restaurants of the area. The menu, which also has some modern takes on traditional foods of the region, is not overly large, but everything we tried was absolutely fresh and delicious! We learned this little restaurant is owned and operated by a young couple -- he is the chef and she runs the front of the house. We wish them many years of continued success.

Our first choice was full so we hopped down the street to check out L'Alchimie. Wow! The goat cheese egg rolls were divine. Hubby loved the kangaroo and my beef dish was so moist and flavorful. The ratouille is spectacular as was the quiche like veggie side. We split a triple creme brûlée dessert and found it delightful as well. Try this place if you're in the area! Besides the food the service and ambiance are first class.
