Loved the location. Price was right. Rooms are typically small but clean and comfortable. Staff were exceptional. We required assistance working out a game plan with changes to train tickets and arranging taxis and they went above and beyond to assist us. Would love to go back and stay longer so we could explore this beautiful area more

Lovely hotel. Get up in the morning and walk out back to the market on the cobbled street and feel like you're in a movie. Lovely little town and area around the hotel. Overall had a very romantic feel. Service was good and I loved the windows. Hard to explain but there are some pictures posted.

Our family of 5 adults (21 - 65 yrs old) stayed in this sweet little hotel right smack in the heart of Bayeux for one night while visiting the Normandy D-Day beaches. The hotel is clean, with typically smaller rooms, (no elevator) and a pleasant staff who were very helpful in finding a wonderful restaurant for dinner. You can safely park your car in the large lot behind the hotel. We wanted to be immersed in WWII era history while in Normandy. Staying at this hotel got the ball rolling from the minute we stepped in the tiny lobby with its wood paneling, its WWII era memorabilia & with the warm greeting we got from the charming older Frenchman manning the front desk.
Stay here and you will have a clean, comfortable stay with a lot of charm added on.

Room Tip: If you want more posh digs, the Hotel Lara (until recently the same owners as the Hotel Churchill...

Finally finishing up reviews from our three week stay in Europe. Thank good ness for iPhones for pics and notes! So we choose this hotel for a number of reasons...good reviews from Avanti travelers, good reviews from Tripadvisor, and our bias, the name since we were on a historical pilgrimage this leg and my husband loves Winston Churchill. We will give our best pros and just a few blips we experienced with the hotel. Traveler alert : if taking the train in from Paris, Make Arrangements with hotel to be picked up at train station. We were lucky that a taxi pulled up to drop someone off, but this is a very small and quiet station with no regular taxi service, and no public phone to call. First impression: quaint, charming hotel small in size, with outside sitting area, and parking lot. As one steps inside, you see a large old fashioned room key wall, reminiscent of something from a John Wayne Hotel in Movies. Small quAnt lobby with fabulous pictures of WWII photos all around lobby and up the many stairs. (Ask for help with luggage since no elevator; especially necessary if you have been traveling for a few weeks). Off the main entrance are a few rooms for morning breakfast or evening cocktails. Visitor alert: you can either purchase full or continental breakfast, which is more than ample and delicious if you are not a big eater. We had fresh juice, fruit and a large bowl of freshly baked croissants with local jam and large pot of coffee ot tea each day. But ask for the continental since it may not be mentioned, Good buy for about 6 Euros PP. Another alert: if you have trouble with stairs and are staying for a few days like we were, ask for room on lower floors. Room was small but very clean. No air conditioning by the way if needed in warmer months. Shower was just big enough to turn around in. Visitor alert: Bring your own wash cloth or face cloth since all they bring to rooms are hand and bath towels. The location of the hotel was magnificent! just walk out the door, take a left and you are on the quaint and rock laden original streets from the war, the actual streets the soldiers walked Many small shops, eateries, bars, and hotels from days gone by grace the town. Now the staff: Daniel seems to be the heart of this hotel, and deserves Employee of the Year award, with his impeccable manners, style and service. He's not only the night manager, the bartender extraordinaire! Serving drinks( from a limited bar menu) , tea and hot chocolate from the kitchen for the non drinkers in the evening, and Maitre D'Wine aficionado for the Burgundy lovers! Another hard worker that needs to be mentioned is the delightful, businesslike but courteous wait staff woman in the morning serving us coffee. A pleasant Bonjour greeted us every morning as she hustled from table to table alone waiting on her guests. (Pardon mois, but forgot her name s'il vous plait. But she had short hair and a sing song Bonjour!) This was a delightful location to meet other travelers and share stories of daily excursions. This was also a good vantage point to visit the local cathedral, as well as the Bayeux tapestry, and it also offered a trip to Mont st-Michel for a small round trip fee which added to the ease and adventure of staying here. (although other travelers could also book this excursion if not staying at the hotel. ) There are a few TripAdvisor mentions at the entrance but I will share a it'd bit of news We learned from the locals. The hotel has a new owner since about Jan2013. The original owner built a hotel right next door literally sharing the grounds named Villa Lara. It's rooms are larger and more modern and it did have better TV satellite during a rain storm when we lost satellite. We enjoyably watched their TV screens from our room when we lost local satellite. So if you are used to a more modern hotel with amenities, it appeared that Villa Lara offered those for a price. hotels, like doctors or hairdressers are such a personal choice, so I offer these comments not by way of complaint but rather by way of choice. To conclude there was one moment however before we arrived that could have presented a real dilemma for us by way of reservations. We booked this hotel back in June for an early October arrival. We gave our credit card number to our travel guide who was staying at the hotel himself. He gave it to Eric, the new owner to book. Unfortunately Eric admittedly said he is not too computer savvy, so when I emailed in mid September before our flight from the States to Europe, the hotel had no record of our reservation. I then proceeded to send a string of emails at we had back in June confirming our room. Evidently this was not received with favor since someone at the morning desk reprimanded me for sending so many emails, and now they only had one room left. They did not have a secure website to give a cc number so you had to phone Bayeux to give them your cc info which I found a bit odd. So I quickly booked using a search engine and was scolded for using them since they charged so much. What a unnerving mess, since now we were three weeks from arrival. Finally Daniel emailed us, asked us to cancel that booking since he d hold our room after reading all the emails thoroughly. So this is one thing that needs to be changed if it has not I believe for this location. They do need to get a secure website for cc info, if they have not done so yet. So I offer this last piece of info by way of constructive feedback for travelers. Hope this was helpful, since this area is such worthwhile place to visit!

Room Tip: Request a lower or ground floor, request the garden side, and get as large a room as possible if you...

Stayed here for 3 nights on a trip with my dad to see the D-Day sights. Room was very comfortable, with a fair sized bathroom (for France!) and an in room safe. We took the hotel shuttle to Mont St Michel and an Overlord tour, both picked us up in the square right behind the hotel. Walking distance to the cathedral and tapestry, and lots of dining options nearby. Hotel breakfast was good, possibly a little overpriced. Staff was fantastic and friendly, they allowed us to use their computer to print off tickets that we needed for the train.

We stayed here for one night on our visit to Normandy. It is well located on the Main Street in this friendly town. The hotel is decorated with memorabilia from WWII which enhances your visit to the DDay beaches. The staff is warm and friendly.Rooms are cozy and nicely decorated. There is convenient parking nearby. Bayeaux tapestry is nearby. Great place to stay in the beautiful area of Normandy
