This is worth a trip from Paris. With the audio-guide I walked along the tapestry (embroidery really) once to get the general idea then went back again and did it slowly. It is a beautiful thing to see. The film about the discovery and restoration is lovely as well and if you have an interest in embroidery you will love the details on the 6 different stitches which make up the tapestry.

this is incredibly well presented and the audio guide helped to explain the details of the embroidery. There is also a good exhibition about things to do with the tapestry

We visited the tapestry because it was one of the things recommended in our travel books. It proved to be worth while and we would recommend it to those interested in the English crown and the early relationship between England and France. The museum furnishes head phones so that one can listen to the story of the Norman Conquest and how William the Conqueror became King of England after being the Duke of Normandy. For me, the stitching of the tapestry (while amazing) was not the attraction. I was much more interested in the history being told.

We were lucky to visit the tapestry in the early afternoon and there were no other people there at the time of our visit. Later in the week we saw bus loads of tourists unloading for a visit to the tapestry. We were glad to have been able to go through the museum in a matter of 30 minutes. On a crowded day in the summer, this might not be possible.

We were glad to visit the tapestry since it was one of the recommended places in our travel books. We were the only people there at the time and we were able to listen to the history told by the tapestry without waiting in the long lines that might otherwise have been there. It took us only about 15 minutes to stroll along the 70 foot tapestry and listen to the interesting story that was being told. We now know how William the Conqueror became King William after being the Duke of Normandy in France.

From early school days I wanted to visit this Museum and I was not dissapointed. To see the tapestry was in itself a great experience, enhanced by the commentry by numbered section explaining in depth what each scene was about. Thoroughly enjoyable morning and the city and cathdedral also worth the visit.
