Owner description: Situated near the British Military Cemetery of Bayeux, the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy narrates the battles which took place in Normandy after the D-Day landings, between 7th June and 29th August 1944. The collections of military equipment, the diorama and the archival films allow the visitor to grasp the enormous effort made during this decisive battle in order to restore peace in Europe.

This was one of the museums recommended by our Normandy tour guide and it was a good recommendation. The displays are very good with ample descriptions in English. The film presented was also very good.

We were there early and the museum was not very crowded but I suspect it was harder to get around later in the day when more people were there. Do yourself a favor and go early.

The guidebooks all said this museum was smaller than the one in Caen, but worthwhile. Because we were staying in Bayeux, we chose to go to this one. My husband and I probably spent 4-5 hours there, reading everything there was to read, and we also viewed their movie, shown in English several times throughout the day. Very informative, gives you a good overview of the Battle.

Fussy person taking the money led to some hilarity. Film explanation was excellent. Museum a really good introduction to the topic.

A very emotive and sobering visit to the museum. Excellent displays and film of WW2 which provided a good prelude to visiting the cemetery and then on to the D-Day beaches.

This is not the kind of Museum to take the children for the cute hands-on exhibits. They do a nice job telling the stories of the soldiers from June 6, 1944 before you go out to visit the cemetery. There are lots of little museums in the area (at least 20 as our tour guide said) but this was the only one I think you must visit if you are touring the beaches. Overlord Tours includes this museum as one of their stops depending on which tour you select.
