Owner description: Situated near the British Military Cemetery of Bayeux, the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy narrates the battles which took place in Normandy after the D-Day landings, between 7th June and 29th August 1944. The collections of military equipment, the diorama and the archival films allow the visitor to grasp the enormous effort made during this decisive battle in order to restore peace in Europe.

I was really surprised with the Museum..thought is was going to be small but it is very well worth the visit..if you are in Bayeux for D Day History then don't miss this museum. Alot of British/Canadian/American & German Memorabilia not to be missed, my son loved the "Churchill Flame Thrower & German Herzer Tanks.

This is one of the best D-Day/Battle of Normandy museums in France. It has a great range of exhibits, signage in both French and English, and even a vehicle that you can get into. The displays are well iit and laid out. It also has a rare German Herzer tank destroyer out front, along with a Churchill flame thrower tank and an American Sherman tank. This museum is a must see for anyone interested in D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. As an added attraction, it is only a short walk from the parking lot to the Bayeux British War Cemetery (about 200 yards) where almost 5000 soldiers, sailors and airmen are buried.

I had no previous interest in the WWII memorials in Normandy, but being there and realizing what it must have been like, sharpened my interest. The museum is well laid out, and has a good overview of the Battle of Normandy, moment by moment, with lots of pictures and artifacts arranged in an easy to follow manner. You could spend more or less time, according to your interest in each of the displays.

Gives a glimpse into the day of the battle. The tanks are there to touch and compare in size and scope of weaponry. Actual weapons, gear , and circumstance is conveyed in a manner which is easily and visibly understood.

If you're going to see D-Day sites, go here first to help your understanding of events. We found this museum particularly helpful. If you're not going to the D-Day sites, then especially go here.
