“Best of Bayeux”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014

Can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. The employees are all so nice and helpful. The hotel is spotless and in a perfect location overlooking the cathedral. The breakfast was great and our first night we ate in the bar area (bc we were too tired to venture out) from room service menu. Probably the best salad nicoise I ever had. Wish I had dinner there again About 20 minutes from Omaha beach and the American cemetary and an hour and a half to Mont Saint Michel and Honfluer A must stay!!!!

A hidden gem of a hotel slap bang in the middle of the old centre right next to the beautiful stream. Its close to the tapestry, restaurants and the amazing cathedral. Great service. Delicious breakfast. Rooms have been beautifully done and all fit with the modern cons. This hotel was a reason why Bayeux was the highlight of our French trip.

We spent two days at this hotel and could not have been happier. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful, all of their recommendations were spot on and the central location means you can walk to everything in town. The Bayeux tapestry, the bistros and brasseries are all musts, and just strolling through town to visit the shops was extremely enjoyable. Our room, 106, had a beautiful view and was elegantly appointed with plenty of room for our family of four. If you are in Bayeux (recommended) then this is the place to see. English is spoken as fluently as French and it is hard to imagine being welcomed more warmly!

Room Tip: Room 106 has a great view and is very large!

Stayed here at our travel agents recommendation and she hit it right on target. A quaint French hotel with all the modern amenities. Perfect location close to everything. Front desk couldn't be nicer. Free wifi. Just perfect. Within walking distance of the tapestries and the church. D-day memorabilia.

Spent Easter Weekend at the Villa Lara, with my wife and 2 kids, 9 and 6 and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Toured the beaches, memorial cemeteries and spent a day at Mont St. Michel, all very close. The staff at Villa Lara goes above and beyond to please and ensure that your experience is flawless. Enjoyed sipping wine before dinner in the lounge by the fireplace! Looking forward to going back! Definitely recommend.

Exceeded all expectation of a provincial French city hotel. Villa Lara is worth every penny if you appreciate modern bathrooms and top notch hospitality. We had planned to move around while exploring Normandy but after one night at VL, we decided to make VL our headquarters if space was available. We received great advice on lunch and dinners, and service was impeccable in every way. We moved rooms due to our last-minute extension and i found the superior room just as comfy as the deluxe category. Same bathroom. Pleasant views and light in all rooms. Great private parking if you drive in, as I did. If I return to the area, I will definitely return.

We spent three nights at the Villa Lara during a weekend guided tour of Normandy. The hotel itself is beautifully furnished and maintained, with wonderful views. (The private baths are gorgeous!) The staff members are so pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is incredible, with many options. Our stay at the Villa Lara was absolutely wonderful and has made Bayeux a repeat destination for any future trips!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Villa Lara is a small privately owned luxury boutique hotel with a chic but casual atmosphere in the historic center of Bayeux, along the Aure River in a very quiet square facing the 11th century majestic cathedral and just next door to the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Our 28 rooms are appointed in an elegant French style with 8 different color schemes. All the furniture is made by Moissonnier, a well-known French company founded in 1885. Its cabinetmaking skills have been passed down generations, bringing the past to life with light touches, suggesting without imposing, breathing new life into traditions to make the present feel magical again, and creating jewelry for the hotel while cultivating an offbeat style-such is the spirit of Moissonnier today. All the rooms are accessible by lift and equipped with air conditioning, a minibar, large flat-screen TV and safe. The marbled bathrooms have a walk-in shower and also a separate bathtub in most of the rooms. The rooms range from 30 to 50 square meters with a view on the Bayeux Cathedral. Beds are minimum 1.80 x 2 meters and in most of the rooms can be up to 2 x 2 meters. Wireless high speed internet access is free throughout the hotel, which features a cozy bar/lounge area with a fireplace and a library, a marbled lobby, and a breakfast room set in a traditional French style where the breakfast is prepared and served in front of the guest. Our complimentary fitness center is available 24/7 and equipment includes a treadmill, bicycle, and strength training machines. A private carpark is available with 15 spots and a drop-off space for buses. Although we meet the official government criteria of a 5-star property, we do not have a restaurant, a spa, and a formal bellman at the front door. We do not want to mislead our future guests who attribute these specific amenities to their image of a 5-star property, although we do of course provide porterage and turn down. And, as always, our commitment to 5-star service is at the forefront of our day-to-day operations. ... more   less
