“WORST RESTAURANT IN NORMANDY?”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

We did not stay at the hotel so I can't comment on the accomodation, but we went for dinner on the 27th October. It was shocking. The salad was "fridgy" and brown round the edges; there was no Thyme in the Boeuf au thym; one piece of chicken appeared to be half eaten; the music was on. Why? The lighting was up high and the room was far too hot. The loos were dark and worn. In other words the ambience was awful. It was aimed at the English and Americans who are very numerous in Normandy and, apparently, not very picky.

Room Tip: Try a different resto. There are lots to choose from.

We had used Rick Steves to guide us to hotels in Bayeux without booking ahead. Many were booked and we settled on the first one with space. This hotel was older with stairs only to access rooms( not geared to elderly & awkward with heavy bags). Parking was limited but available free overnight on the street. The room was spacious but older and tired looking. It was an expansive stay given that it was the last room available. We booked ahead next time. The hotel restaurant seemed more English in style and we wanted to experience local fare. Found a restaurant to eat nearby for dinner

Was recommended to this hotel by my brother...and not disappointed. Good location for visiting Bayeaux. Hotel comfortable, clean with very friendly staff. Didn't eat at the restaurant as my elderly in-laws are pie and chips types, so would have been wasted, but the inclusive breakfast was very good. Cathedral and tapestry literally about 10 minutes walk away and plenty of good restaurants close by. Will definately use this hotel on the next visit to the Normandy beaches.

Room Tip: There isnt a lift and the Hotel is over three floors. If travelling with elderly people, request a r...

Stayed here for three nights last week. We were in a junior suite which was very nice, clean and comfortable. Location is great. Restaurant is awesome and staff was very friendly.

Saw some of the other posts about how it was "dated". That might be a little true but its in the french countryside, not paris. Anyway unless you are planning on buying the place, I wouldn't worry about it, this really was a nice hotel.

Room Tip: I had a junior suite which was a separate building.

The hotel is postcard perfect from the exterior, with a lounge that displays signed photos from famous actors, and celebrities, although most of them are long gone from this world. The view of the city and the illuminated spires of Bayeux Cathedral from the top floor is wonderful. But . . . the hotel is in dire need of new carpet, more new accessories and furnishings in the rooms, and be prepared to carry luggage up four flights of stairs if you have a room on the third floor with the charming view. A superior room on that floor was spacious, relatively clean (no one dusts the bedside tables) but lacked the charm of the hotels history or public areas. Bathrooms and showers were clean. You should ask for a parking space reservation if you have a car, for an additional 9 Euros per day

We stayed here about 10 years ago and the experience was nearly identical to this time. Big, comfortable rooms and old world charm. Downtown Bayeux is a delight and the nearby Normandy sights make it a near perfect place to stay if you are going to daytrip around the area. Also, a very good value. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Draw your shades if in the front, as they hotel illumination stays on all night!

We spent 3 nights at the property in Bayeux, in two different rooms. We made last minute reservations that was available only if we spent the first night in one room and the last two in another. We agreed to that and were assured that after the first night, we were to leave our bags packed and they would be moved for us. We loved the first room, which was in the original part of the hotel. It was a small suite with a siting area and charming furnishings. Really nice. We also enjoyed a drink in their living room-like bar with other hotel guests that evening before a very nice dinner in the hotel restaurant. Comfortable bed, good night's sleep. Unfortunately, when we got back to the hotel the next afternoon to go to our new room, our luggage was no where to be found. It had been put into storage instead of moved and we ended up moving it up three flights of stairs to a very large but stark, modern style room in the new annex next door. Plus the bar was closed that night and the next for a private group! If we wanted a drink, we would have had to sit in the small cramped lobby. I guess it was more important to 'sell the bar' to an outside group rather than provide it for hotel guests!

Room Tip: Be sure you get a room in the main hotel, not the annex by the parking area.
