“What a fantastic place”

We stayed on our first trip to France, and were blown away by the prettiness of the hotel. Also ate at the restaurant, well worth it. Our room looked over the roof tops of the the local area, and was a picture in its self. THe staff were most accommodating, looking after requests without fuss or trouble. A genuinely nice place to stay

I stayed at this hotel for two night with my two teenage children and my parents. The hotel was very accommodating and friendly. I requested a room on the first floor for my parents which was great and the stairs were no problem for them. My children and I were on the top floor in a spacious triple with a lovely sized bathroom. The decor was charming and French. There is a cosy bar area downstairs which is great for a drink and complimentary nibbles before dinner. In terms of location it is really super for Bayeux and we were able to walk to all the main sites.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues, request a room on the first floor.

Had a fantastic stay at this hotel, its location is perfect for walking in to the town centre and visiting the tapestry.
Car park is a little tight but a godsend.
The food was excellent in the restaurant and the staff could not have been more helpful we were celebrating a birthday and they brought out the desert with candles without us asking.
Had a fantastic time will go back.

Perhaps other rooms are better in this hotel than this one. We didn't mind the stairs, but we were definitely put off by the nursing home smell in the lobby. Not to mention the worn carpet, the communal bedspreads, the mold in the tub, the peeling paint, and the lack of Internet access in the room. When we opened the door to the room we were greeted by a swarm of flies even though the windows were closed. I travel often in Europe and am accustomed to the European custom of no screens, but have never been bothered by bugs in any other hotel.

We opted out of the cramped parking we had requested, and were given the following answer
when we inquired about parking elsewhere: "I have no idea about that. I never park on the street".

We had a wonderful dinner at La Rapiere a short walk away and down an alleyway. Expensive but worth every euro. (Rick Steve's got this one right although he steered us to a non-existant restaurant in Montmartre).

Room Tip: Don' t count on Internet access in the rooms. We weren

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at Le Lion d'Or! The hotel itself is located right in the town center so was perfect for us. We travelled with two small children and my parents ( both of who have knee trouble). We loved the atmosphere of the hotel, the lobby had plenty of pictures of famous guests who have stayed before to look at. The rooms were so lovely and clean and BIG, very french which I liked, and the bathrooms were very modern and clean as well. They supplied us with a lovely travel cot so my young son slept well. The ONLY problem was.....it was on the TOP floor of the hotel, which we didn't know at the time, and they only had stairs with no lift whatsoever. My father does not like to cause commotion at all so we just got on with it. On a good note, both of our rooms were at the end of the hall away from people so my children could play and we could leave the doors open so they could wonder into my parents room. We never used the restaurant as we were on a budget and didn't want to spend 30 euros per person on dinner. It did look lovely inside though. I would def stay here again but would ask for a room on a lower floor since carrying children AND luggage up can be a bit of a pain!!

Room Tip: For those who have trouble climbing stairs, ask for a room on the lower floor as there is no lift in...

Room was OK, but the lobby had a musty smell and the climb (3 flights up, no elevator) was unacceptable, with no warning from the hotel -- especially since I had noted in my reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary and were requesting a lovely room with few or no stairs. Breakfast was just OK. If I were to go back I'd choose the Churchill, which seemed to be nicely renovated and was closer to the tapestry.

Room Tip: The hotel has no elevators and there are far too many stairs. Do not stay here if climbing is diffi...

We had a hard time finding a room in Bayeux on line. Booked Le Lion d'Or from booking.com. What a stroke of luck. The train was two and half hours late, we missed our connection out of Paris. Ended up having to take the train to Caen, then take a taxi from Caen to Bayeux. By chance, I called reception at Le Lion d'Or to say we would be delayed and to hold our room. The receptionist held the room, gave us the gate code to get in, and instructions as to where we could find our key and directions to the room. What a savior, the hellish travel day was tough, but saved by a staff member taking an extra moment to give us detailed information that made our arrival easier. The hotel was a dream, close to everything, rustic, clean, old but very charming. The hotel sits off the road and has a gate that locks at night so no traffic noise can be heard at all, they created a "quiet zone". It's located right around the corner from Place de Quebec where the excursions depart so you don't have far to walk if your touring. The French breakfast was tasty, and the restaurant decor was beautiful. Four nights were spent here. Best part about the hotel was that it was located minutes away from the most lovely countryside on the planet, Normandie. Strongly suggest that you upgrade to a larger room, we did and really appreciated the extra room. Our home is older and Le Lion d'Or became our home away from home. Not only do we intend to return, we can't wait to return. Only complaint was that the free Wi-Fi signal was a little weak in our room. Lots of room in the spacious lobby for laptops and ipads where the signal is stronger.
