Had dinner on our first night in Bayeux, sat outside. Pros: Good pizza and very large salads. Service was fast and friendly. A lot of nearby parking, we drove from the Novotel. Cons: If you sit outside like we did a lot of traffic. Overall the food was great and we enjoyed the meal and sitting outside, recommend it.

Arrived in Bayeaux for the day, starving hungry with a 3 year old so needed something quick and easy. This place fit the bill nicely being just off the main square where we parked. It was a cloudy day so we say inside but I liked the look of the outside terrace.

The menu was simple, but I ordered steak tartare (my favourite) and hubby had a local style pizza. We asked for steak hache for the lad which arrived quickly and with plenty of bread. The patty was extremely rare, which doesn't bother us as otherwise they can be very dry and William likes his meat rare and bloody, but I can imagine others would not be so pleased.

It also arrived with an adult size steak knife, typical of the French attitude to treating kids like small adults but again I can imagine English parents being horrified by this.

The pizza was rich and creamy, with slices of the rich offally sausage (andouillette) and no.tomato. It was very good though and my tartare was fresh and delicious with plenty of onion and capers to.mix in. The parsley was dried though which was disappointing. The chips with both mine and Williams meals were also lovely (as they always are in my experience)

I have had better meals for less money in france, but this is a big tourist town and this was on the main square so you expect to pay a bit more in a tourist trap.

The food was hot and served quickly, and the service was friendly in spite of my poor french and their limited English so we would certainly come back.

Granted, we arrived at 9pm after traveling all day long to get to Bayeux, and were really starved. We saw the cafe/restaurant and were not welcomed as they closed food service at 9:30. We could only get a couple things on the menu, and that was fine, but the food was quite bad. I had a salad and the dressing was essentially a blob of mayo on it. My husband had a scallop dish and were really rubbery/overcooked and didn't taste good. Suggest to go elsewhere...
