“Lovely patio - average food.”

Although recommended by Rick Steves, the restaurant is nothing special. But the patio is great. Seems to attrack an early dinner crowd/

“Non stop service and good one”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

This hotel and restaurant is positioned very closely to the cathedral, the Bayeux Tapestry and the Musee Baron Gerard. It is open at almost all possible hours with the very impressive menu, good service, and what helps it employes the English speaking waiters. You can see on a huge patio outside and enjoy wonderful summer night in Normandy. Compared to other places which are on a typical European schedule of being closed at certain times and reopened at certain times, the Old Mathilde serves food day and night at very reasonable prices. Way to go!

“Glad we didn't read the reviews”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

We ate here because it's around the corner from our hotel and it had a nice vibe. We did not read the reviews until we got back to our hotel and couldn't believe some had such a bad experience. We were treated so attentively and our food was outstanding. The wine was excellent for the price, we had a great bottle. We liked that our order was electronically placed right at our table so not sure how mistakes could be made. We enjoyed every minute.

Good food and service - a great place for lunch, a drink or casual dinner with choice of outdoor or indoor seating.

“Terrible service, avoid”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

This is the only time my husband and I have been to a restaurant and not given a tip. We were seated in a rushed way by a waitress who would not make eye contact. She disappeared before giving us a menu. When we asked a waiter for a menu (in French) he couldn't be bothered to hand us one, he just shrugged and said "les vaccances" implying that they were going to give bad service because it was the holiday season. When our food finally arrived the portions were small and the salad that I ordered which was the price of a main course salad elsewhere was the size of a side salad.
