“Good French bistro food and friendly service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2014

We had dinner at this place before an evening concert at the cathedral, across the street.

Good classic French dishes, both in menus and a la carte. My husband had the oysters and a grilled fish. I had onion soup (tasted a bit old) and the duck a l'orange. All accompanied by vegetables, bread, etc. Well-priced carafes of good house wine.

My husband, who is picky about sorbet, had a nice selection here. I enjoyed cinnamon ice cream. There are fancier, classic desserts available, but this is what we prefer.

Atmospheric dining rooms.

Friendly, professional, helpful service. Good prices for the quality. Well, except for the onion soup.

“A Gem in Bayeux”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2014

We tried the Petit Normand one evening as it was late and we were very fussy after reading the menus on other restaurants. The place was empty and looked rather small, but we sat down and hoped we made a good decision. In 30 minutes the restaurant began to fill as others tried it too. We were happy we did. The wait staff were quick and gracious and the food was tasty and reasonably priced. All in all a pleasant surprise and a chance to thank then for a good experience.

Very nice food, local produce and traditional Norman recipes.
Friendly and helpful staff who were happy to speak to us in English or tolerate our average French!

“Great local flavors”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2014

It was our third day in the charming and tourist friendly town of Bayeux. It was our base for the pre-D-Day tours of Normandy with a side trip to Vimy Ridge. We have been to many good restaurants in Bayeux and this one came highly recommended by several locals. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere was right and the food delicious and at a reasonable price. It is very easy to order in most restaurants in France. You have three or four price level meals to choose from and within each there are about 6 choices of a starter, a main course and a dessert course. We usually go for the second to the lowest priced menu. There really isn't a reason to go higher unless there is a specific dish that you wanted. We felt very comfortable there, took our time and really enjoyed ourselves. We both ordered fish that evening as we had meats the previous several meals, We also learned there is no need to order labled wines as the house wines are just as good. I am told they are often the same wine as the labled ones, just bought directly from the vinyard. Bon appitite. Oh yes, tipping generally is not expected in France. I usually just round up.
