Description: Restaurant Clment Marot in the touristic centre of Lille has history and style galore. The warm, rustic/modern dining room features peached paneling, antler chandeliers, wooden beams, and smart curving banquettes at circular tables. Chef Francois Vandeweghe uses the finest local and seasonal produce to create traditional dishes according to his mood and remember that Lille is as much Flemish as French. The menu might include snail and tomato puff pastry tart with parsley sauce, veal kidneys with mustard and lemon sauce, and a marvelous rhubarb crumble with liquorice ice cream, followed by truly superb coffee. More than 250 wines await you in the cellar. For private dining, there are three rooms adaptable for banqueting, meetings or presentations. The elegant Chicoree Room seats up to 36 diners. The La Porte Room, with its grand, antique fireplace, private courtyard and cream walls, is superb for art exhibitions and cocktail parties. The Upper Room on the first floor seats up to 25. Get the full joie de vivre of Clment Marot book a cookery lesson (in French) either privately or for your corporate group of 14 to 24, including apron, jacket and chefs hat with the company logo and certificates of achievement.

“The moste old fashioned restaurant i have ever been to.”

This is the moste old fashoned restaurant i have ever been to. On my menu there weren't any prices, they only gave the menus with prices to the man. Funny but not of this century i think. The dishes were very classic, ok, but not memorable. I had 'coq al la bière' but i wouldn't take it again. My friend had the salmon and he liked it, but it was very simple.
The staff was really correct and friendly.

“Good value and good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2010

We were warmly welcomed even though we had no reservation. We did take the precaution of arriving early for that reason and it proved wise as a party of 4 missed out on a very good meal as there was no more room.

The dining room was very smart and the staff were all very friendly not at all stuffy as can sometimes be the case in higher end restaurants in France. They were full by 8.30 with 2 large groups but the service and the quality remained to a high standard. The coffee was the cheapest we had throughout our stay but the best. Well done would certainly come back.

“Nothing of note”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2009

Pleasant enough, but nothing to distinguish it. We were in the second dining room, in mustard yellow with bright and colourful prints. Perhaps the first room feels smarter. We started with cassoulet of snails, then fish stew and rumpsteak. The only notable course was an excellent hot souffle, but by the time it took we reckoned the chef got it right at the second attempt.

Perhaps we were spoiled by a far better, and cheaper, lunch that day in Calais. Lille can do better.

“Clement Marot”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2008

My wife ordered the crepe suzette at Clément Marot for desert and the chef came out to cook this at our table as you do. The chef proceeded to put on a show to his French diners, but more or less ignored out "English" table, and of course everyone was "impressed" with the spectacle of Grand Marnier in flames!

Unfortunately he had put SALT onto the crepes instead of sugar! To me a very basic error. My wife almost spat out her food when she tasted her first mouthful! When we raised this (politely) it went very quite in the kitchen and only after a very long wait did the chef come back out apologising - to his audience (who all thought it was funny by the way), but not directly to my wife, who was the person he should have apologised to. A very small glass of grand marnier was offered to my wife, and we still had to pay the €5 supplement! The food was fine apart from this and the ambience good, however, it was a missed opportunity to make ammends and we will not be returning.

Wonderful restaurant. Classical French food with great service and confortable place. It's so classical that it can be a little boring if you're looking for something original.
