This hotel is very conveniently situated for Eurostar travellers and is fairly priced.

We had booked a bed and breakfast package thru Eurostar but the man on the front desk repeatedly tried to add the breakfast onto the bill despite it already being paid for. He did this when we checked in and when we checked out.

The rooms were very clean and towels were changed daily. The shower room was tiny but adequate. Fine for a few days.

The breakfast buffet was not bad at all for a hotel in this class and when the bread ran out one morning I simply went down to the front desk and someone immediately came up to replenish it. The coffee was in a large urn but reasonable, there were cereals and pastries too. Enough to keep us going.

Stayed at this very centrally located hotel for two nights early December with a view to visiting the Christmas Market. As is often the case with french hotels there was a distinct "Eau de drain" aroma whe we lifted the plugs out of the bath and basin. Our room was on the top floor but there was a lift (two hamsters and a banana and its cramped). Bathroom recently refurbished and very clean though the room was tired and pokey and not commensurate with the £75 per night tariff.
My main gripe was the apparent indifference of the desk staff. Check in done, told which room we were in and supplied with the key I then had to ask on which floor our room was located and, having been asked if we wanted breakfast, where exactly could we find it in the morning. I felt like I was bothering her. On our return to the hotel each time we went out there was no greeting of any sort just a head behind the counter. Mmmmm.
Breakfast...well the room was the size of someone's lounge and very cramped. Several people in two's sat inconsiderately at a four person table (by this I mean on the outside so as to ward off anyone thinking they might also sit to eat) and not conducive to easing into the day at all. Guests were warned : Do not take trays of food to your room it is forbidden! We de-registered for breakfast.
Lastly, the laughable Christmas Market the root of much mirth and hilarity. Load of old tripe passed of as artisan goods the like of which one can purchase in Wilkinsons for a tenth of the price. I imagined something magical and truly seasonal a la Poland's Krakow - Rynek Glowny...now there's a market!
Nice little family run Chinese eaterie just around the corner and lovely cous-cous two doors down.
I dunno France seems to have lost it a bit for me...grumpy natives who, if they half an ounce of gumption would be jumping on the ferry to stock up for Christmas, Easter etc etc having been amazed at the prices in the supermarket even when taking into condsideration the poor £ - Euro!

Just a heads up for those of you looking to book to stay at this hotel. I contacted the hotel directly via the email address on their website to get a quote for a 1 night stay. They were quick to respond with a room rate of 80euros for a quad room. I responded and gave over my credit card number to secure the booking as normal. They confirmed in writing that the booking was confirmed. Next day I get an email telling me that actually the room rate is 115euro, not 80 as originally quoted, and would I mind confirming my booking at the new rate. I responded letting them know I was disappointed and asked them to honour their original quote - no reply. I emailed the next day and the next day and the next day and tried calling (the phone number doesn't work) and they don't respond. I have now asked to cancel the booking but what do you think...no respondy to the email! So, now I'm about to let my bank know so that they don't charge my credit card for their pitiful customer service. Just good information to know I thought...

We stayed at the Hotel Continental at the August Bank Hol weekend, with our two daughters aged 8 and 9. We booked a quadruple room, and our room was on the second floor, looking out onto the front (the Gare de Lille Flanders). The room was comfortable and clean, if a little old-fashioned. Our bathroom was very small but was fine (for one person at a time!) When we arrived in the room, it was absolutely boiling hot. There was a fan on the desk, and once we had opened the windows (which were ground to ceiling, and led to a small balcony - nice! - the room cooled down. The little balcony was good, it was just behind the 'Hotel Continental' sign on the front of the building, and meant we could step out and enjoy some people watching. We had two double beds which were clean and comfortable. The room also had a rail for hanging clothes, and a small desk, a lamp, and a tv mounted on the wall. Because the room was at the front, there were traffic and 'city' sounds at night. We had the windows open because it was hot, but we had brought ear plugs so it wasn't a problem. Light sleepers might find it difficult though, but as the evening got later, it did quieten down.

The location of the Hotel was great, we could walk from it into the pedestrianised area which was across the road, also the Eurolille shopping centre was about 50 yards away. There are lots of nice bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, so it was easy to stop by for an evening drink and then wander back to the hotel. The Gare de Lille Flanders is right opposite which also has a Metro station should you want to venture further out. We drove from Calais and although the Hotel could arrange parking (at a nearby venue) it was very hard to stop right outside the hotel to go in and ask about the parking, so we just parked in the underground 24 hour car park behind the station. It cost around 30 euros for 2 days parking there (the same as the Hotel rate for parking). Easy to park there, lots of space, quiet and secure, and a 2 minute walk around the corner of the station to reach the hotel. Simples!

We had breakfast at the hotel the first morning, it was 7 euros per person. The breakfast room is on the first floor at the back. Not a very inspiring room. It was a self-serve buffet breakfast, with orange juice, fruit salad, meats/hams and cheeses, yoghurts, bread, croissants and pastries, coffee and tea, jams, honey etc. It may sound great, but unfortunately when we arrived (about 8.45am - breakfast was from 7am-9.30am), there was not a lot of food left, no meats/hams, one slice of cheese, hardly any fruit salad, a little french bread, some pastries. There didnt seem to be anyone around to ask for things to be replenished. We had a decent breakfast but didn't think it was worth 7 euros, and decided to breakfast outside on the second morning. We went to the Bar Napoleon, which was underneath the hotel and a couple of doors along, on the corner. Breakfast was 4.50 euros for a croissant, freshly squeezed orange juice and a hot drink. Or 7 euros for fruit salad, croissant, pain au chocolate, freshly squeezed juice and hot drink. We ate it outside on the terrace and the pastries were deilcious, very fresh and the juice very nice also. A better atmosphere than the oppression of the small breakfast room in the hotel, anyway. Of course, in the hotel, you can eat as much as you want, so it depends on your expectations as to whether you have the breakfast the hotel offers, or if you want to venture outside. We didn't go far, but there are many places offering breakfast around the vicinity, one shop offered 4 pain au chocolates for 2 euros. Bargain!

We really enjoyed our stay, the staff were friendly, the entrance of the hotel clean and modern, the rooms comfortable and the location was perfect for exploring on foot. For a budget choice it was just right. We paid 74 euros per night for a quadruple room. Quad rooms seem hard to come by in France, so we were pleased to have found accommodation in such a nice location.

I stayed here with 2 girlfriends for just 1 night, but if i ever go back to Lille i will definitely stay here again. The location is perfect - literally only a 5 min walk from the Eurostar station and directly opposite Lilles main station "Flanders".
We arrived about 9am but the room was ready for us. The woman on reception was lovely and friendly and smily - when i got stuck with my French she helped without being patronising or annoyed (as some people were), and supplied us with a map. They also allowed us to leave our bags at reception all day on our last day as our return train wasnt until 9pm. Our room was ideal, clean, bright, fantastic view, plenty of room, a tv, some hangers, comfy beds, extra blankets and pillows if needed. The toilet was 1 small room and the sink/shower/mirror was another - but it didnt matter to us.
Location was great - as i said right opposite Gare Lille Flanders so handy for the metro. Right outside the hotel there is a selection of cafes/bars/brasserie's which have indoor and outdoor seating, we liked Le Palais de la Biere - as we found the staff much friendlier than at Napoleons. The Grand'Place is only a few minutes walk away, and even the zoo (which i highly recommend - and its free) which is kind of out of the centre was only a 20 min walk.
All in all Hotel Continental was perfect for our needs - it's not luxurious, but it is nice, and clean and well maintained, and the staff are very welcoming, and therefore fantastic value for money. I really recommend it.

This hotel was minutes away from the Eurostar, right in the heart of Lille. Easily walkable to all attractions in Lille and across the road from a metro station and the giant Euralille shopping centre. Typical two star french hotel, small room, tiny bathroom with decor in need of repair but essentially clean hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Room cleaned daily, fresh towels daily and extra pillows given whan asked. Would recommend and will definately use again. We gave the breakfast a miss at 6 euros each as all cafes were offering better for less.
