Owner description: Prestigious art museum features works of Goya, Donatello and Veronese along with German paintings and sculptures from the 15th and 16th centuries.

Highlights for me were Rodins Shadow, Rubens Deposition and the Monets on show.
Sadly the rest of the pieces, although magnificent, were a little wasted on the likes of me.
Very much an art lovers museum rather than a 'must see' tourist hotspot.

Admission was around the 6 euro mark which I thought was good value and the free Ipod based audio commentaries were excellent, very informative.

Note: The museum is closed on Tuesdays.

Rather overwhelming but there is a free audio guide to selected parts of the collection. The cafe is excellent for a hot or cold meal or snack at a reasonble price. In walking distance of the centre

I don't know whether Lille's Musee des Beaux Arts really is the second most important galley in France after the Louvre, as is cliamed, but it certainly is a stunning collection, beautifully exhibited. The building itself has been brought up to date with flair and style, without losing any of its original ambience, The audio guide (which I normally find intrusive) is highly recommended in this case - and it's free with the entry ticket.

The building is pretty impressive, very photographic from the outside, but though there were some interesting pieces of art, in general most of the art was pretty boring.

On my first trip to Lille, this was the highlight of the trip. The Palais de Beaux Arts is said to be the one of the best art galleries in France - second only to the Louvre - an assertion that I would agree with.

It has a wonderful collection of paintings on the first floor and the museum kept me entertained for around 2 hours. The collection downstairs isn't quite as interesting, comprising of large relief maps of several French cities. The cafe serves great coffee.

Tip: remember to take photo ID if you wish to borrow one of the audio guides (highly recommended to get the most out of your visit).
Areas for improvement: cafe would benefit from greater choice of food. Also, if would be good if they did guided tours every hour or so in English so that visitors have the opportunity to ask questions about the museum and the art on display.
