“Worth a visit as part of a general tour round the old town”
Reviewed December 13, 2012 via mobile

This is an interesting building, worth looking around. As most people have said it is not a place made for a long visit but I think it makes for a nice combination with a walk around the myriad of small streets in the old town.
The presence of the temporary exhibition was a real plus.
As one other writer mentions go into the upside down house which is just beside the hospice (and free) while it is still there. It is a truly strange sensation trying to stand upright!

“Not worth the money”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

Centrally located but blink and the tour has ended. Personally not enough to see with all exhibits in French, over vigilant museum staff and over 5 euros each entrance fee! Would not recommend!

“Great Museum - just the right length of stay!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

The museum is off the Rue de la Monnaie and is actually quite large; it houses a lot of rooms on the ground floor exploring the life and history of the hospital itself and above, in a larger hall, gives some history of the town and trade.

We used the English audio guide which was very good - we got far more from the visit as a result.
Note to makers of these audio stories - narrators may have excellent English, but they still make howlers; why oh why don't you a) use native speakers and b) get the translation checked by a native! One or two hilarious mispronunciations and translations...

A good museum; glad we visited!

“Old way of Flemish life”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

The collection features 17th and 18th century art; woodwork; ceramics; tapestries and musical instruments. But being the town museum, it also focuses on the history of Lille, particularly its revolutionary history, and the story of the hospital and the monks that ran it. The ground floor is devoted to a recreation of a Flemish house and the hospital as it would have been centuries ago. currently it is housing an exhibition containing a large Octupus and Noah's Ark.
Just a few door down is the Upside down house which is definately worth a visit.

“Partly closed”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

Difficult to fully judge as the ward was closed to set up an exhibition, however the rest was interesting but for the best go to Beaune.
