17 stays says it all. Lille is a great place to visit, and the Hotel de la Paix is my 'home away from home'. The room I always ask for is quiet (but small), immaculately clean, and the free wi-fi is a real benefit.
Breakfast is efiiciently served.
The location is very central: an easy, level walk from the Eurostar station.
The staff are delightful.
The value for money is good.
The building is so lovely - historic, but well adapted to be a hotel.
I am already booked in, for my next stay!

Room Tip: My room is always 33, it's small but even when Lille has its amazing 'Braderie' (mega st...

The good: great location, a stone's throw from the opera house. Nice old building with lots of character. Room clean and average.

The bad: We really should have read the reviews more closely and insisted on a room at the back. In late June, our room was swelteringly hot (no aircon) so we opened the window and were greeted with lots of really loud noise, especially at 5am when the lorries are all delivering to the shops and a sewage truck was pumping out the drains right outside our window. Didn’t really get any sleep at all here. Hotel was pretty unhelpful about parking, which is available nearby in a multi-story (€16/24 hrs) but is really hard to find without any help which wasn’t forthcoming.

On the basis that it’s a great location and I like to give places a second chance when they have had good reviews from others, I might try this again but only if I could guaranteed a back room. I wouldn’t stay there in the middle of summer either as aircon is desperately needed.

I booked this hotel after seeing the reviews on tripadvisor. I was not disappointed, I can't believe that this hotel only has 2 stars. It was spotlessly clean and all the receptionists were very pleasant and spoke English. My room was quite large by French hotel standards, equipped with a mini-bar and flat screen TV. There was a large bathroom with a partitioned off wc.The hotel also has a small intimate bar that doubles up as a breakfast room in the morning. There was a very good choice for breakfast with scrambled eggs and omelettes being on the menu as well as the ubiquitous Continental breakfast. The hotel was a 15 minute walk from Lille-Europe station and 10 minutes Gare Lille Flandres. Although situated in a busy city centre street, the hotel was very quiet. There are plenty of bars and restaurants situated nearby.

Just returned from a short break in Lille. Hotel del la Paix was ideal - very clean and characterful, friendly staff and an excellent location in the centre. Lille is an interesting city with art, shops and architecture - dont miss a walk to the zoo in the Citadel park. We enjoyed some great meals so something for everyone.

We wanted a quick euro-break, and knowing the Lille area reasonably well, chose this hotel mainly because of its location. We were right! Its got easy access to Metro, bus and the two stations, Gare de Flandres and Lille-Europe are within easy walking distance. (Saving on taxi fares folks!) All the shopping areas, rue Bethune, Grand Place, Euralille are very handy, and the Palais des Beaux Arts, nearby, has some great exhibitions. Also, they wouldn't take any payment! Plenty of good bars and restaurants are within easy reach, and there's a Paul's Boulangerie on the corner, for those great sarnies and pastries!
The hotel was what it said on the tin, clean, comfy, warm, with the usual breakfasts etc. Staff were friendly and pleasant, with good English. No problem. we'll be using it again.

Room Tip: Our room at the front looked onto the street, and had the usual late-night noises. Ask for a room at...

As many have already said, this is an excellently located hotel, with very clean rooms and friendly helpful staff. It's true that the colours are a little bright, lots of pinks and oranges, so not the place to stay if neutrals are your thing, but if you do, you get used to the colours after a while.

We had a very quiet room (no 36) which overlooked the courtyard in the centre, so a great night's sleep. Our room (the Van Gogh) was a suite, so big and roomy for an old French building, with a separate toilet, and separate bathroom in which there was a shower curtain!
The only thing I would be wary of in summer is whether there is airconditioning, as we could not find it, and it would be very hot without it.

We also took a travel kettle, as there are no coffee/tea facilities in the room.

We had breakfast in the cafe one day, which was good, (we had omlettes) but if you only want pastries or sandwiches, a trip to Paul at the end of the road is a good bet and cheaper

One general thing about Lille if your diary and money allow, we'd recommend going there from Thursday to Sunday - as many restaruants are closed on Sunday night and Monday. And other venues such as the Ville Bourse & Art Galleries are closed Monday and some on Tuesday. So Thursday to late afternoon on Sunday would give more flexibilty to visit most things including the various markets on Sunday.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room at the back, and remember to choose "non smoking" or not

Only a 10-15 minute walk from the Eurostar terminal and a few minutes from the Grand Place, this is a very convenient hotel. Although it is a doorway from the street with no frontage, it is well signed. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and well sized and the toilet and bathroom were separate. The bath is large though, strangely, there is no shower curtain so required a bit of mopping up afterwards. We had a room at the front of the hotel which initially seemed noisy however there is a roller shutter which provided total darkness and dampened most of the noise from the street below. The room had a number of art prints and, whilst appearing slightly dated in terms of decor, was perfectly clean and comfortable with free wi-fi access included. We didn't try breafast which is provided, if required, for 9 euros/person. There are plenty of cafes/coffee shops around the area. We would stay here again if we return to Lille.

Room Tip: Request a room at the back
