Very good location-wise and the room was modernly decorated. Bed was comfortable. BUT....... Do not go in the summer, particularly if it's 35 degrees Celsius like it was during my stay. The rooms do not have air conditioning and the only way to sleep is with the window open, letting all the noise in.

Breakfast is extremely basic, bread is certainly from the day before and it is the first time ever that I've stayed in a hotel that does not serve scrambled eggs in the breakfast.

Adding to all of this, the WiFi connection is miserable. Absolutely miserable. This is inconceivable in a modern hotel in the 21st century. I could not work and I could not talk to my family with Skype. Useless.

To make everything worse, one morning I left the hotel and asked the receptionist to tell the cleaning staff to leave two extra bottles of water in the mini bar, since I would be arriving late at night after a conference dinner. She agreed. When I arrived at night, no water was there. I had to endure that sauna without water. Horrible.

Stay here several times, clean, modern and convenient for railway stations and city centre. The breakfast is very good with plenty of choice and fairly priced. On this visit the temperature outside was 34 degrees and the bedroom felt even hotter as there is no A/con in the hotel and when I enquired if fans where available for the bedrooms I was told NO. Unless you like baking DON’T stop in the summer, you have been warned.

A tall, thin hotel in the centre of Lille. Good underground parking. The room was a bit warm, so I slept with the window open and was woken by the sound of the bin lorry. Breakfast was very nice with plenty of choice

No A/c made it a very stifling room and meant little or no sleep. No draw space for clothes, so had to keep all in luggage apart from a couple of hangers for longer items. Far too basic in this day and age for seasoned travellers. Wouldn’t recommend it when there’s so much more choice in town.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel

On the plus side, it’s convenient for the main stations, and the room was clean.

Key negatives: our visit was on a warm June weekend. The room (407) was easily the stuffiest sweat box I’ve experienced, with no aircon or ventilation (the window didn’t open at all), and made worse by the small minibar, which just kicked out even more heat.

Taking a shower is interesting - there is ok water pressure, but no temperature regulation, so you end up dancing in and out of the flow, which pulses between hot and cold every few seconds.

If you find yourself stuck here, I suggest:-

1. Ensure you get a window that opens
2. Unplug the minibar as soon as you get to the room. This will stop the heat rising any more than necessary.
3. Cool the room down by running the cold taps with the bathroom door open. For a very long time.
