Ibis Lille Centre Grand Place
Ranked #55 of 107 Hotels in Lille
Reviewed April 7, 2010

Stayed at this Hotel for the Easter weekend and had a very enjoyable stay. Had a top floor room with a view of the chimneys of Lille, the room was warm and was spacious and well enough equipped. The room was cleaned and tidied and the towels changed every day. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. Hotel has an excellent location, right in the old, interesting part of Lille, some great bars, cafes and restaurants within yards of the hotel.
Only one small gripe, the directions, we were late arriving cos of the SeaFrance strike and after driving about for 20 minutes, got lost, and had to ask a taxi driver to drive to the hotel as I followed. As we had booked a 3 night stay, the price was very reasonable, about the same as a one night stay in city centre UK hotel at Easter.

We booked one night here, based on its location, right in the centre of Lille. The hotel itself is very basic: the room was very small, although ours, 405, had a lovely little balcony overlooking the square. It was clean, but there were practically no amenities: no hairdryer, one pillow, only two small towels, only one bin. Also, there was no heating or air con working in our room, which is OK in May but wouldn't be at other times of the year. However, the bed was OK and it was very cheap - about £45 on a prepaid deal.

We stayed here for 3 nites. The laws in France are no smoking in rooms, all you could smell was cigarette smoke. The planters outside the windows were full of cigarettes. The bathrooms had mold everywhere. Holes in the walls in the rooms. For 2 nites we basically did not sleep for the noise on the street. Most of the noise was coming from the front of the hotel where the desk clerk sits. I loved Lille, amazing city, but could not really enjoy from lack of sleep.

Last weekend my friend and I spent a great weekend in Lille with the Ibis Lille Opera as a base.

I must admit I didn't expect too much from this hotel because my usual holidays are in 3 or 4 star hotels. I was pleasantly surprised!

The hotel is right in the heart of the city. Lille is quite a small city and you can probably 'see' everything in a day, though 2 days, as we took, is better so you can see the sights at a more leisurly place and just enjoy yourself. Look at the photos for a glimpse of what this lovely city looks like.

We booked the hotel online and paid once we got there. The reception was very friendly and the room, whilst basic had everything we needed. The only drawback is that there was no safe in the room, but since we didn't take too much cash we simply carried it round with us in the day. Another bonus is that the shower was powerful in the spotless bathroom.

The hotel does offer breakfast but we didn't have it. We checked out at 10am, left our luggage in storage (because we had a train back at 9pm), and went to Wazzemes market for breakfast.

To summarise , if you want a clean hotel for a budget price (it cost us 51euros for the room for the night), then I would thoroughly recommend this Ibis!

We stayed at the hotel for three nights over New Year and the hotel seemed very popular with every room taken.

It's a basic 2 star Hotel situated within a few metres of the centre of Lille. The Grand Place, Opera House, shops and eating establishments are quite literally on the doorstep.

It is central for both the City Centre and the Old Town with a cobbled street outside the hotel. The only noises we heard were a few New Year revellers on their boisterous way home.

Our room on the fifth and top floor, 504, was probably the smallest room in the hotel. The sloping roof of the hotel limited the room space and tall people would probably struggle to avoid banging their heads against the sloped ceiling.

A firm double bed, clothes hanging space, a small table, bedside lights and table light, tv with two English language channels, electric heater and air conditioning were all available.

The electric heater was very efficient, and needed to be, as the outside temperature dipped to -6c.

The Bathroom was a reasonable size with bath, shower, toilet and sink.

The Hotel and rooms were extremely clean and tidied regularly during our stay.

The Staff were very helpful and all spoke English.

Breakfast is available, on the fourth floor, for €8 and is typical Ibis fare with breads, cakes, savouries, cereal, fruit and numerous drinks.

The Hotel lift is large enough to carry 8 people - not the normal small type found in most 2 star hotels.

If you are travelling by car you will need to book in advance for the Hotel's car park. There are very few options to park in Lille centre and the Ibis parking really is worth considering. The car park is about 3 - 4 minutes walk from the hotel and costs €9 per day with 24 hour guarded access.

A Metro station is about 100 metres from the hotel and is extremely easy and cheap to use.

We enjoyed our few days at the Hotel and would recommend it to anyone for a short visit - just avoid room 504!

First off, it was very nice that the hotel is within walking distance from the train station, and the central downtown area is between the train station and the hotel. So, it is in a GREAT LOCATION! I loved Lille's main square, the fountain and all of the shops for eating and shopping.

The hotel itself is nice. I agree that it is no frills. Nice little sitting area in the lobby. There is an elevator but the stairway was fine for getting around too. The room was clean, had a bed and desk, and the tv worked well. The bathroom was fine and had a nice tub. If you want extra pillows, a blow dryer, or to iron your clothes just ask at the front desk and they were happy to supply us with these. The hotel was quiet internally but is surrounded by cobblestone streets so once the delivery trucks started going in the morning it got noisy enough to wake us. Note the cobbled streets in the photos. The staff was very friendly though and spoke English quite well.

We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel but had no problem finding food at the nearby shops. There is a Monoprix (one of our favorite places to grocery shop in France) in one of the indoor shopping centers where we bought fruit , bottled water, and some baked goods the one day.

We stayed at this hotel for a short city break, and were delighted. Very friendly staff (at checkin, when I asked a really nice room, the receptionist immediately changed us to a room with a grat view over the medieval roofs of Lille). The room was neat, without frills, but very clean, also the bathtub, and the mattress was of good quality. The breakfast buffet was un-french in its rich variety and of a quality we didn't expect in a 2-star, € 60/night hotel. The location is very central, all the shops and restaurants are within walking distance. A better-than-expected experience!
