“Great Location”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

We had a 2 night stay at this Hotel. Great location, just a 10 minute walk from the Stations.
We were in Room 208. A corner room on the 2nd floor. Nice size room with tea and coffee making facilities and a mini bar, clean and functional, no bath but a very good shower room. There was a bit of traffic noise, but we slept ok and the bed was firm but comfortable.
Breakfast on the Sunday morning wasn't great. Very busy and crowded, but the Monday morning it was much better, not crowded at all and there was a much better selection of food on offer for some reason.
We found the staff very helpful and pleasant. Jeremy on reception gave us advice on trains and printed off a timetable for us as we planned to visit Ghent while we were there. It was a good stay overall. I would happily recommend this hotel and be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: I would go for a corner room or suite if you want a bit more room. An inside room if you're bot...

The hotel is just behind the Opera and it's an easy walk from either stations. Restaurants all around so no problems for a meal. Very good breakfast. It's a snack if you want to eat in the hotel in the evening.

I find Mercure to be consistently reliable and was not disappointed with this hotel. It is in a great position - a very short walk from the Grand' Place. We reserved two rooms in advance at a very good rate. The Junior suite was modern, clean and bright (although not huge once the double sofa bed was extended) with a great balcony off of the bathroom! The privilege double next door was more traditional and very tasteful. Both rooms were spotless with well-equipped bathrooms.
There was a good selection at breakfast. Although there is no bar as such, there is a lounge area where drinks are served. There are plenty of public car parks close by. As mentioned in a previous review, L'Opéra is slightly cheaper than the Grand'Place. Staff are, without fail, courteous and attentive. We will use this hotel again if we return to Lille.

Room Tip: May be better to request a room further from Grand'Place if you want a more peaceful one.

We stayed one night, occupied two rooms. Rooms were good, clean and warm.
Only thing we did not like was that there were no proper cups and spoons, althoughj Tea making facilities were provided. They supplied with two Plastic cups!
We also found the hotel very clean. Staff were helpful and friendly.
We recommend this hotel for short visits in Lille. Very good location.

I booked this hotel 2 months ago and booked 3 rooms, 2 rooms for single occupancy for my mum and mother in law and the final room for myself and boyfriend. I even contacted the hotel in advance and asked if possible if we could have rooms with a view. Upon checking in our room was tiny and overlooked an office block and despite there being 2 of us we were given the smallest room, most odd. However the biggest issue was that you felt like you were in a sauna! Having checked with reception we were told that the air con had now been set to pump out heat and told to leave the windows open which we did. However half way through the night I heard a buzzing which then tormented me and I didn't get much sleep. Upon waking I saw a mosquito on 5 wall and managed to kill it. However I also discovered I had 12 bites on my back and shoulders! Even worse it was then we noticed 6 marks on the wall of blood and half squashed mosquito from previous tenants that the cleaners hadn't removed! We complained and were moved to a slightly larger room where we didn't need to leave the windows open so didn't get bitten that night. Just wish they hadn't felt the need to put the air con on heat when it was still warm hence the need to have to open the windows and perhaps a little warning about the mosquito issues. Other than that the hotel is fine and lovely and central but no proper bar which is odd but plenty close by make this less of a problem

We stayed for three nights in a Junior Suite. We had a very good view of the Town hall and belfry. The room was large, clean and well-appointed, although the air-conditioning was not very effective. Some soft drinks were provided in the fridge free of charge. The bathroom was of reasonable size, clean and had a good walk in shower, (and a small balcony!) but no bath and mediocre toiletries for this category of room. The hotel serves a limited range of food during the day. It seemed better to order from the menu, rather than to pick a dish from the servery, as these sometimes looked rather tired. The hotel is very convenient for the old town. We would use this hotel again if we return.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the road can be a bit noisy from late night revellers at the weekend.
