The location of the hotel is fantastic, close to everything. The rooms where rather big and the bed is very comfortable and quiet as well so you are sure for a great nights rest here. The staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

From arrival to departure we found the staff friendly. polite and helpful.

Rooms were typical Novotel - comfortable and functional. The room was quiet with no distraction from other guests.

The breakfast was excellent with sufficient choice to satisfy all tastes. My daughter who is a fussy eater thoroughly enjoyed the choice and quality of the buffet.

We spent several hours one afternoon, due to rain, playing cards in the bar and enjoyed a few drinks served with nuts and crisps. by friendly staff.

The location is very good and gives easy access to to restaurants, cinemas and museums. Lille itself is a lovely town with friendly people and an excellent transport system.

I would recommend both the hotel and the town

Firstly, I must add that I got the room at a special price as member of Accor A club.
I appreciates the Nesspresso and BBC World service (although would be even better with CNN)
Front staffs and cleaning staffs are friendly. Speak English.
Great location, at a quiter and nicer district and within walking distance to shopping centres.

Cons. We have to park our car at the back of the hotel. At a public "private" car park for 11.20 euros a day.

Never been to Lille before and its a great city. this hotel is in the old town and round the corner from the Grand Place and 5 mins walk to most things you would want. Its a good hotel and the food in the restaurant is also very good. Staff speak good English and wifi is complimentary, although drops out a lot, but a simple click soon fixes that - however i think that is the Orange network rather than hotel.
If i go to Lille again i will probably stay there.
The only gripe was the pillows, they weren't the best and soft, poor quality, but its a minimal gripe when everything else was good. Its a 4 star and i would continue to rate 3.5 - 4 star. However all credit to the staff for my duration their service was great.

Room Tip: I had a room at the back which was quiet and comfortable. The higher floors have a better view over...

I stayed in this hotel with a friend of mine for a short weekend break. The hotel is about 15, 20 mins walking from the railway station as we travelled by Eurostar, and about 5 mins walking to the city centre.
The hotel has a very welcoming entrance hall with restaurant and bar. The room, however, it is not what one expects from a four stars hotel. It is quite expensive and it does not meet the standard of a four stars hotel. On the positive note: the staff are very friendly and professional and the breakfast is very good indeed!
Lille is a very interesting city to visit and explore with very beautiful historical buildings and lovely restaurants, parks and theatre.

I booked the Novotel on hotels.com at a special rate of £175 (not including city tax, which was only a small amount anyway) for two nights. This was a room-only rate. The summary of my rating is:

Location: I travelled to Lille on the Eurostar and the hotel is only about a 15 minute walk from the station (depending on how fast you walk) and is an easy route. I arrived late at night and felt okay walking through Lille at night to get to the hotel. The hotel is also located about 5 minutes walk from the Office of Tourism, and 6 minutes walk from the Grand Place. Lille is a small city that can be seen entirely on foot or by bike (if one so desires - it is STILL a lot of walking) and as I am a walker, I did just that. The hotel was brilliantly situated next to nearly all main tourist attractions and the Grand Place itself has lots of lovely little cafes and restaurants to eat at.

Service: Both the ladies I encountered at reception were friendly and helpful. They didn't proffer information but they were certainly helpful whenever I asked a question. Housekeeping seemed good enough and I had no complaints about service.

Value: I thought it was okay for a well located hotel but there was no breakfast included and that was a let down.

Sleep Quality: this is part one of why they let themselves down a bit. The bed was great, the room quiet, the curtains able to keep out light BUT the room got too hot at night and even with me sleeping in a singlet and summer pyjama pants on top of the quilt, I tossed and turned and woke up too hot. Airconditioning would not go astray in this hotel. Still, I managed a good enough sleep the second night. I just would have liked a cooler room.

Cleanliness: the room, bathroom and toilet were all clean and I did not feel that this room had any issues with cleanliness.

Rooms: spacious and quiet with an excellent safe, a mini bar, a television, a desk and a sofa bed (which I had no need of but would be useful for those travelling as a trio or quartet.

Extras: WiFi was appalling. It was free and you could log on after quickly registering with your name and email address. It was supposedly a 6 hour pass, renewable without limit. However, it kept dropping out after 5-10 minutes of browsing and was exceedinly frustrating. In the end, I just made up names and email addresses (it will accept any old gibberish) because I was so fed up. Not only did it drop out and make you sign in again, it also dropped in and out for the 5-10 minutes it was actually connected. HIGHLY annoying.

At the end of the day, this is the perfect hotel to stay in location wise and the service is friendly. But compared to other hotels I have stayed in (I travel a LOT), this only makes an average rating.

Arrived late at night and this hotel was a 15-20 min walk from the Eurostar station. We found it easily, and felt safe walking around Lille late on a Sunday night. The gentleman on reception greeted us straight away and we had the keys to our room within a minute, it was quick, very good service.

Our room (220) was far down the corridor from the lift. I had asked for a quiet room, but the room overlooked a fairly busy road below. You couldn't hear noise too much through the windows, but if we wanted the window open for a bit of air, the noise was pretty loud.

The ventilation (heating/air-con system) didn't seem to work properly in the room. I wasn't too bothered so didn't complain. The toilet was separate from the bathroom, in a tiny dingy closet room - very small, so I can imagine would be uncomfortable for someone bigger than my 5ft 2". The lighting was also a bit dodgy, so seemed like a underground public toilet. Not very nice, but it was clean, and good enough for the 3 nights we were there. The bathroom was a decent size - sink, bath and over-bath shower all clean and functioned well. Complimentary Novotel toiletries were sufficient too.

The rest of the room was spacious and clean. We had a superior room, so had a double bed, and a sofa bed, so had a bit of extra room and somewhere to sit while watching the TV. Mini-bar, kettle, tea and coffee available in the room, as well as a safe. Room to hang clothes and shelves as well. Bed was comfy with standard pillows and duvet.

Breakfast buffet in the morning was good, always had a lot to choose from - breads, pastries, yoghurts, cereals, waffles, juices, hot drinks (tea, coffee, hot chocolate), fruit, hams, cheeses - and there was also a small selection of hot foot - scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausages, bacon. There was a DIY egg boiler, although this was a bit too much hard work, and required 5 minutes to get a soft-boiled egg. The staff were very nice though, and served you hot drinks as you wanted.

There was a gym at the hotel, which we took a look at but didn't use. It's a good size, with a few exercise machines, and weights machines. Very clean, doesn't seem to be used that much.

Overall, not too bad, but for the £130 a night, and a 4-star hotel, I was expecting more. Probably wouldn't stay there again unless there was a good offer on. But it was ok for a few nights.
