We spotted this restaurant when walking through old Lille and resolved to visit it that evening. We were not disappointed but pleased that we turned up early. All evening people who arrived after 19.30h were being turned away. We were not surprised - the food was terrific, with lots of local dishes. We started with lamb's brains on toast, followed by steak tartare, complete with raw egg. Mmmm ... The service was excellent, relaxed but efficient. The wine list was good, too. We were intrigued by the location - a small courtyard which contains two restaurants, each with outside and inside eating area - you walk through the terrace of Les Companions to the other. However, during the entire evening, no one walked through to eat at the other restaurant, even tho' there were no places at Les Companions. Maybe next time we'll try the other one - but it would have to be bloody good to beat this!

After three nights of disappointing meals in France we hit upon Les Compagnons de la grappe because it was near our hotel and we liked the recommendations. There were no disappointments here. We dined in the courtyard where the tables were packed and with French people too. The service was relaxed and friendly but efficient and our meal was excellent, ending up with the best crême brulée I have ever tasted (and I have tasted a lot). It is a friendly place with great charm and we liked it so much we returned the next day, attempting to have lunch there but this time there were queues trying to get a table. I am afraid there is little doubt that French cuisine is going downhill. Fast food concessions are mushrooming up everywhere. This, though, is a little corner of sanity where the quality is high and the prices affordable. We plan to return on our next visit.

we were recommended this restaurant by a Lille resident . The food was lovely , there was a good wine list and the staff were very helpful - our waiter spoke four languages so communication was good.

It is tucked away off the street and a good atmosphere - diners lingered after eating which is always a good sign . Would recommend

This restaurant is well hidden because it is in a small courtyard. The square is cozy and nicely decorated. During our visit, it was very busy and dozens of customers could not be helped. The operation is very good and friendly. The dishes were served quickly. The menu includes several dishes that are quite tasty: foie gras de canard maison, carbonnades flamandes à la Chti, Rumsteak, crème brulée. The wine list is good.
We also took a look inside and discovered the beautiful interior decor.
A perfect place for souper.

We spent last weekend in Lille and after a very grey and cold Saturday, we were welcomed by a sunny and "warm" Sunday. What a chance to find Les Compagnons de la Grappe in Lille, with its cosy terrace. Although they did not serve outside, we could have a drink there before having lunch.

It's not easy to find, nested in between old buildings of Rue Royale : you have to look for a narrow tunnel on the right side leaving la Grand Place.

Once inside you'll be very surprised by the baroque theatrical scene : every room is filled with antiques and colors.

Cuisine is as well worth to notice with both original recipes and local traditional food.

All in all a great experience
