Kyriad Dunkerque Sud - Loon Plage
Ranked #11 of 13 Hotels in Dunkirk

Hotel is a typical motel style, hotel suitable probably for only a stop over. Conveniently located just off the Autoroute, 20 minutes from the Channel Tunnel. Rooms were a reasonable size, clean, fresh linen and good for families as they are interconnected, however bathrooms were very compact. Plenty of parking as you would expect for a 'roadside'. Situated in a light commercial area, the hotel facilities are limited, but reception efficient and does have access to a lovely restaurant (Poivre Rouge) 2 mins walk away. Did not stay for breakfast so can't comment. For the price we had no complaints.

Have just returned from a short week-end break, staying in the Kyriad Hotel in Dunkerque Loon Plage. Was a little worried after reading other reviews. On arrival asked if there was a lift, as stated in our brochure! Was pointed in the direction of the stairs, which were two small flights. Not good if you are wheelchair bound, remember to book in advance a ground floor room.

Our allocated room (407) was cold and had a musty damp smell, plaster falling off the ceiling and the radiator not working. On contacting the reception we were moved to another room, which was fine, small but warm and clean. It is obvious it is a short stay hotel and understandable that they are not going to heat all the rooms if they are not being used. Breakfast was good, no problems.

Thankfully the receptionist Joanna spoke very good English and seemed to deal with all the Brits, well done and thanks for all your help.

Would definitely again, if they will have us!

We booked 3 rooms here (our 2nd visit) due to its convenience to the ferries and wine warehouses.
The Kyriad is a budget hotel, so don't expect excellence. But, we had 3 rooms, 2 of which had adjoining single rooms, and kitchenettes - so could have all fitted in two rooms.
The rooms are small (the bed is big and fits very snugly in the room). The bathroom is an average size, ours had bath and over-bath shower (sadly, our shower was missing the bracket to hold it on the rail - the other 2 rooms were fine).
Unusual for France, each room had a kettle, tea, coffee, milk and biscuits, plus a bottle of water.
The bed was comfortable, there were extra pillows in the wardrobe and we all slept very well.
Breakfast is in a light and airy room. Obviously it was continental, but we enjoyed it and all found something to keep us happy.
The hotel does have a restaurant - but we don't know anyone who used it. We did use the small bar, which was reasonably priced.
The hotel is by a roundabout, opposite other budget hotels. Next door is a Poivre Rouge restaurant, which is where we ate (as we did last year). The food is excellent - most of the customers were French, so that is a good sign. Our food was hot, well presented and came as we ordered it (if you don't like pink or red meat, ask for it well cooked). The all you can eat buffet was also good value.
We will return.

Room Tip: There is no lift, despite the website saying so. If you don't like stairs, ask for ground floor...

The room was small but clean and the shower worked well. Just check you have towels before you take your shower we had two hand towels but coped. There was no evening resaurant but we were directed to the other company one at the Campanile just a couple of minutes walk but on a cold wet windy nignt with disabled in our party we had to take the coach. The food there was good and as we weren't booked in we understandably had to wait, the waitresses were over stretched but coped well. The manager at the Kyriad was obliging and although the bar was not well stocked we had a good evening. Breakfast was excellent and staff restocked regularly, there was no orange juice but that was the only thing missing.

Room Tip: No lift so if you have difficulty with stairs ask for ground floor

I can't review a room as we were not able to see one. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon hoping to book a room for that night. We hung around in the reception and looked into restaurant but there was not a soul to be seen. We eventually gave up and went across the road to the Premiere Class. I hate to think what we would have done had we pre-booked a room.

Room Tip: Find another hotel!

There was no staff at hotel upon arrival from ferry (1AM), so could not check in. Went to Campanile across the street, which was full. Returned to Kyriad, still no staff available, no answer on service telephone (757). Departed and checked into Ibis in Dunkerque.

How can there be no staff in a hotel at night? What in case of fire or other emergency.
What was even worse, they charged our credit card for NOT providing the service that was booked. Note this hotel is owned by the same chain that runs Campanile and Golden Tulip, if they can't run this simple hotel, how will they do managing larger properties?

Room Tip: Rooms NOT located in this hotel must be much better.

The only good thing about this hotel is location(close to ferry terminal)! The other reviewers above, wrote everything you need to know! Few words: dirty, smelly, rude, expensive(for what the hotel offer)! Try other places arround(if any)! Next time I would consider to sleep in my car!

Thank you very much for spending your time reading my review!
